Draught at the brewpub. Pours on the red side of black with lacy beige head. The aroma is roasty coffee and some toasted nuts. The flavor is dark-roast coffee with some grainy off notes. The finish is dry and slightly tannic. Noble effort, but not so great.

Draught. Fine black pour with some rubies on the edges and a nice tan head. The aroma is musty with a surprising hop character. I don’t mean like an IPA or anything, but there is a bit of pleasing brightness going on. Also scents of tree back, earth, coffee, and butter are noted. hm. Pretty tasty at first with adequate roast and a good chocolaty flavor. The finish is drying with acidic notes. Some diacetyl starts to come out but not too bad. It makes it tastes like cheap chocolate cake a little bit. It gets a little tougher toward the end of the glass as the buttery stickiness starts to accumulate. Still, not horrible, just not the best beer from this brewer.
