UPDATED: APR 14, 2006 750ml courtesy of Kevin. Upon opening the bottle, there was a ring of yeast sediment at the top ring of the bottle. Pours hazy orange with a huge off white head, that took a while to subside. Strong hop aroma of tropical fruit bubblegum and citrus zest. Medium bodied with a resiny mouthfeel. Hops dominate the flavor, very citrusy. Lots of grapefruit and orange notes. The finish needs a little work. The bitterness is there, but I pick up some hairspray and soap. But overall, this was not too bad. The best southern made IIPA (maybe the only) I had so far. This has potential. Nice effort. However, if you guys at BBC want to sell more of this in the stores, CHANGE THE LABEL! Its flat out awful...the colors, graphics, etc. You have a nice 750 ml with a foil top and cheesy teenage soda can type label. AND it says that this is an "India Pale Ale." Redesign a nice classy label with the proper classification of "Imperial IPA" and you might move a few more of these. OK, I’m done.

Draught@Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen (backlog). Deep golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, grass, some vanilla, toffee and wood. Flavour is very similar in a nice balance. Hides the alcohol very well.

On tap, nice amber/copper pour. Very earthy/herbal aroma. Notes of some floral hops character but no citrus hop character to speak of. Decent Double IPA but not the most complex, seems a bit standard issue. So not bad, probably good for someone just developing a taste for hoppier brews.

Bottle - thanks RJ5020! Pours cloudy deem amber-brown with a medium tan head that dissipates with good lacing. Aroma is malty - caramel, biscuit, some pine and herbal aromas as well. Flavor is medium sweet, caramel, toffee, candi sugar, overripe citrus. Some bitterness as well, but not strong at all, with some odd herbal, almost floral notes as well. I can’t call it a bad beer, but it is definitely not in my wheelhouse. This is pushing sweet hoppy barleywine territory more than DIPA.

Cloudy, dark amber with a yellowish-tan head. Scent is caramel, herbal, fruity, earthy. Taste is a strong earthy bitter....sugary. Dark carmelized fruit, toffee malt. Substantial leafy bitter.

Very hazy dark amber beer, good pale tan head. Semi crisp and semi dry palate. Strong toffee caramel malt base well integrated with bitterish dark orange marmalade. Subtle sweet red berry fruits. Well balanced DIPA if lacking the extra bit of wow. Very drinkable.

Dark caramel with big, foamy, tan head / Sweet, rich nose of candied pine, caramel, orchard fruit & citrus, dusty cabinet, and celery salt / Medium to full body, a touch thin relative to the big alcohol making it somewhat hot, chewy, with big but not biting hops and long, bitter finish / Complex, deep flavors of caramel, turning orchard fruit, grapefruit, cut pine, and celery salt / I enjoy the peculiar flavor profile, different from the traditional grapefruit-orange.

Originally reviewed: 12/21/09. Bottle received from bamadog in a recent trade. Thanks for the beer! Poured into my pint glass. Pours a very cloudy dark copper with a thick beige head on top. Decent retention. Left some pretty sip rings on the glass. That was the best part of the beer. Scents of toffee, bread, and earth. Not what I would expect from an IPA. Hmm. Decent body on this beer. Nice mellow smoothness with a touch of carbonation play on the tongue. Flavor is weird. Dull earthy bitterness, caramel, and a slight tart funkiness on the finish. This is strange. Not sure what I think of this beer. It’s interesting, to say the least. I wouldn’t go out of my way to grab this one again. Too bad, I liked the other BBC brews I’ve had.

750ml bottle courtesy of Acknud. Thanks a million Bill. Pours a hazy burnt orange with a one finger creamy beige head. Not much in the way of lace, but the head collapses until there is just a half dollar size bit floating like a water toy in the middle of my glass. Luscious candy and cherry aroma with some hop bite. Very much like a Barlywine. Flavor was a nice combo of dark fruit, brown sugar and fruity hops. Palate is moderate with a finish that is sweet and bitter simutaniously. This doesn’t seem to be highly rated, but I thought it was terrific.

Pours an opaque caramel color with a thick tan head...nice lacing and reatention. Aroma is floral with tea-like hops...caramel maltiness...fruity...smells a bit like a barletwine. Flavor also has some caramel and earthy malt notes...spicy dry hoppiness...just a bit metallic. Mouthfeel is oily and the finish is bitter and dry...earthy.
