2009 Sampling: Very sweet, cold, wet, boozy but not too much and not warm at all. Lots of Citrus flavors and earthy hops. Nice and smooth. On tap at the 12 South Winter Warmer beer festival in Nashville, TN.

Growler shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate tart fruit, toasted malt and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture with soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Very interesting beer.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy caramel color with a thin offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon, toffee, vanilla, wood and citrus hops. The taste is toffee, citrus, caramel, nougat, brown sugar, bourbon, raisins. Fairly strong alcohol warmth. Complex and nice, but a little disjointed.

A: Pours a deep mahogany with crimson highlights. Starts with a single-finger white head and leaves a bit of lacing. S: Initial smell js dark, candies drugs with some caramem and a good amount of sweetness. Slight bourbon character; I wonder if it’s blended given the mild bourbon character and the fact that it js not at all hot. T: Similar to the taste but a little bit more bourbon comes through. The sweetness is more subdued and the caramel comes out a bit more. M: Quite creamy and utterly lacking in booze. D: Quite drinkable. A big improvement over Jefferson’s Reserve, the only other beer I’ve had from them. That is solid but this is quite good. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 08-17-2010
