Lemony tartness upfront quickly yields to a light sourdough wheatiness and refreshing carbonation – the perfect pint on these hot and sultry Georgian summer days! 3.0% ABV, 7 IBUs and Tart. The first release in our FunkieTarp Series, Fünk Weisse, is a Berliner Style Weisse Ale brewed with 55% wheat and sour fermented with Lactobacillus (of Yogurt fame).

Nice wheat backbone. Sharp tartness. Slight dairy note in that like many of the style. Very good beer.

Draught at Brick Store. Funky. Bit of too much blue cheese and orange color. Tart, but not weisse apple tart for me.

Pours a nice clear golden with a thick and fine bubbled eggshell head that leaves traces of lacing. Aroma is not strong, but promises with fruity and malty notes. Flavor is quite fruity, almost like a hard cider but with a malty underpinning and some fizz to let you know this here’s a beer. A note of sweetness nicely balances the sour apple tone. Texture is firm and fizzy, leaving a sour apple finish. Feel da funk!

Pint draft at Taco Mac Metropolis in Atlanta, Georgia. The pour is clear golden with not much of a white head. There is a bunch of fine carbonation bubbles. The aroma is light lemon, and not too much else. Softly tart, hint of funk as it warmed. The taste is tart lemon, lemon peel than a fair amount of diacetyl. Wheat character comes out as the beer warms. The palate is light bodied, not much carbonation and lemon with peel finish. Decent, though would love to up the funk and minimize the diacetyl.

Tap at GABF. Pours a pale yellow with small head. Nose of tart yogurt, lemon peel, and yeast. The palate is above average tart and dry, with flavors of lemon juice, yogurt, and unripe orange. Finishes clean.

This Berliner Weisse is quite tart and flavorful. Lemony Aroma of slightly funky baked bread. Feel: medium body with just right medium carbonation. O: Wow, very flavorful, especially at only 3%!

A true Berliner. Very tart upfront which fades as you drink it yielding to cheesy, wheaty sour dough. A very nice funky complex aroma and thick lacy white head.

Sample at the Decatur Craft Beer Fest. Light gold color, with a big, white head. The aroma is lemon juice, white bread, black pepper, and quite a lot of funk. The flavor is characteristically, puckeringly tart. Medium body, very acidic, and sticky. Overall, this is a very well made Berlinerweisse. The flavor, after the first sip, was strong, but not overpowering, and made for a surprisingly refreshing and tasty beer.

On tap @ GABF. Clear straw pour with a white head. Nose is a bit champagne-like. Some lemon zest, a bit tart, and hints of popcorn. A bit of wheat bread and green apple. Flavor is fairly tart. Lemon, green apple skin, and grass. Fairly dry, a bit of yeast, and a touch of champagne.
