1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Blast from the past. I used to drink this in Oz back in the day. First time drinking one in around 13 years. Appearance: bright yellow, tiny white head. Aroma: wet cardboard, grass, plastic. Flavour. Wet cardboard, wet grass, plastic too. Long bitter harsh finish. Yikes.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
375ml bottle. Looks light. Aroma of pale malts and light floral hops. Flavor about the same. Light texture. Old bottle, but I don’t think it’d make much of a difference.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Not as bad as I feared. I was afraid James Boag’s beers were inversely proportional to how cool their TV ads are. This is not too bar. Malty, crisp, a touch of bitternes. No detectable aroma, but a pleasant drink.

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours clear, deep gold, with a whipped white head.
Aroma of grain, corn.
Taste is barley malt, a bit cardboardish, watery.
Slightly bitter, vegetal/herbal hops.
Ok, but not that great.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is fairly malty with lots of graininess. Fairly clean with only light esters and diacetyl. Faint aroma of corn but not DMS corn. A hint of sulfur.
Pours a fairly clear yellow gold with a thin white head thy quickly recedes but lingers on the edges. No legs and only light lacing.
Flavor has lots of sweetness to it up front. Some light graininess as well as quite a bit of corn. There is a light to medium low fruitiness. Faint sulfur in the finish along with some bitterness. No hop flavor really. Bitterness lingers a bit with some graininess.
Mouthfeel is low to medium low with medium carbonation. Astringency is low but present. A bit slick on the tongue but finishes dry and crisp.
Overall the beer is meh. It's fairly fresh with a good by date 5 months from now but it's really nothing special. I expect a light lager to be cleaner than this and the bitterness is a bit sharp.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
James Boag’s Premium Lager has a thin, white head, somewhat of a lacing sheen left on the glass, a hazy, yellow-golden appearance, streaming bubbles, and some suspended brown particles visible throughout. The aroma is of pungent, sweet barley malt, sugar, and white bread. Flavor is of sweet, bold malt, white bread, a shadow of paper, and a nice balancing hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium, and James Boag’s Premium Lager finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and supremely drinkable. Overall, this is another very good beer. Buy it, and try it! RJT
