Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is an intensely flavorful beer. Chocolaty, roasty, fruity, and bittersweet, with a hidden alcohol presence. This beer was designed to be sipped slowly on a cool evening in a nice cognac glass. Let it warm up to get the full flavor. This beer won Best in Show at the 2005 NJ State Fair when Brian was homebrewing.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown body, almost black, with a fizzy dark brown head that left lots of heavy lacing. The aroma is an odd mix of burnt and roasty malt with a whole lot of green hops. Some chalky and ashy notes, molasses, and light alcohol. Big burnt and ashy malt with a high bitterness level in the flavor combine to form a somewhat unpleasant experience. Finishes hot, highly hopped, and somewhat astringent. Mouthfeel is full and a little sticky and cloying with a mouthcoating finish. Moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, this was a pretty big fail. Nothing about this seemed to work very well.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of BrianK. Dark brown with a tint of red and a dense, light brown head leaving laces. Lightly sweet roasted malt aroma. Quite full-bodied with sweet roasted malt and vanilla. Some malt bitterness in the finish. 201008

Courtesy of gillard Pours black with off white head. Aroma leaves some nice hoppy notes. Taste, floral hops, roasted, leaves a nice light hoppy aftertaste. Rich malty taste, grainy. Thick mouthfeel. Impressive imperial stout. Enjoy the hand cut labels, can’t get more artisanal. Re-rate 1-10-2009, courtesy of tpd975. Aroma, I got a lot more of dark roasted malts and chocolate. Taste just impressed me with the amount of dark fruits it gained with temperature.

Bottle. [Tasting @ Papsoe 20-10-2008] Small creamy beige head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Black color. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, dusty grains. Over the palate came bitter roasted malt. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and somewhat thick texture. Roasted malty bitter finish.

NEPA beer club strikes again. This one packs a lot of alcoholic heat up front within a very bitter chocolate toffee walnut flavored brew. The hoppy bitterness is rather earthy and leafy. There is almost a smoky tobacco licorice tone in the aroma and flavor from the malts. The instructions to let this one warm up are important because I noticed a smoother creamy taste while cold and the bitter tones came out when as it warmed.
