HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 11, 2008 Bottle (12oz). Shared by me and blankboy (3 bottles) with gregclow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Thick black pour, average creamy lasting. Sweet, fairly boozy aroma, dry and slightly lactic, dry leafy hop bitterness. The taste is a little chalky, minty and lactic, sort of like dry minty malty chocolate milk with a herbal bitter infusion. Smooth, silky thick mouthfeel, still and creamy, a little boozy and milky in the finish. Pretty solid. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Jun 26, 2008 Bottle shared by kmweaver. Pours a proper deep black color with a dark tan head. Nose is sharp smoked/black malts, sharp notes of dark, bitter chocolate, heavy roast... similar flavor, heavy roast, some sharpness and roughness, but the chocolate note is especially note, rough, bitter, dry, roasted bakers chocolate. Not bad. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jun 25, 2008 (12oz bottle, thanks kmweaver) Medium brown head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, raisin, roast, some smoke, soy. Taste is moderately sweet, smoke, chocolate, roast, some alcohol, light burn. Low carbonation, sticky full body. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Jun 25, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of yobdoog. Thanks, Trever! Pours a murky, dark chocolate color; thin, medium tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of nougat, chocolate, and oily nuttiness in the aroma; minimal alcohol; bitter chocolate, roasted malts; reasonable imperial stout nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy nougat, dark and milk chocolates, roasted malts, and oily nuttiness; solid imperial stout core; basic, drinkable, pleasant. Solid maltiness. Lengthy finish: dark, bitter chocolate, nougat, and roasted / charred malts; minimal alcohol. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle: Dark pour, near opaque with a rich brown head. Aroma has some cereal oats, espresso, licorice and some mild booze/alcohol. Mouthfeel is chewy and never sticky; just creamy and luxurious. Flavor has a solid roasted malt presence. There’s some creamy chocolate, rolled oats, spicy licorice and a touch of espresso into the bitter/roasted long finish with a solid hop bite. The alcohol is well hidden and it’s damn tasty. A rich & tasty yet easily drinkable Stout. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Thin brown head of fine bubbles. Sweet candy sugar aroma with some raisins and spicy hops. Black in color. Sweet and malty flavor with some ripe fruit, molasses, roasted grains and some bitter chocolate. Late swallow is a distinct licorice flavor. Alcohol is present but does not overpower. Kind of nasaly also. Little bit of piney hops. Finishes rich and strong and roasty. Slicky and oily mouthfeel. A decent impy.
Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jun 15, 2008 Thanks to Paul for the bottle #2370. Poured medium-deep chestnut brown with a short cap of tan head. The aroma picked up drawn caramel and semi-sweet chocolate with shoots of tar and hefty doses of pine bitterness.. moderate roast and decent interaction between the sweetness and hoppage. The flavor found the pine and earthy bitterness that damn near outshined the malt bill.. roasted darker chocolates, caramel, and lesser molasses at the core with hot and heavy pine laced throughout.. really became too much and knocked it down a notch. Medium-plus bodied on the palate.. the high bitterness got in the way.. sticky and bitter on the finish. This didn’t do it for me. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 13, 2008 This was a good but bittersweet beer with a nice chocolate flavor and hints of fruit,i am cleaning out my cellar and drinking all my IPS and forgot I had this and it was not bad at all.CHEERS!
