his Russian Imperial Stout is an intensely flavorful beer. Chocolaty, roasty, fruity, and bittersweet, with a hidden alcohol presence. This beer was designed to be sipped slowly on a cool evening in a nice cognac glass. Let it warm up to get the full flavor. This beer won Best in Show at the 2005 NJ State Fair when Brian was home brewing.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and chocolate, leading to a dry and roasted finish. Nice. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

A: A nice looking pour to this one. A dark, dark brown color with a small tan head. S: While the appearance was nice, the nose was far from it. A decent roasted malt aroma with a slight smokiness. Unfortunately, there was a lot of acrid roast and coffee as well. T: Luckily the flavor is a touch better, but not amazing. The roasted malt is the main component of the beer with a smokey flavor. M: The body is a bit thin for an RIS, but the carbonation is right on: low. D: This is really nothing special and in some cases, bad. I would not seek this one out again.

Light and tasty given the abv. Burnt caramel notes swish around the palate. Dark brown, almost black pour. Some dark fruits and chocolate malt in the nose. Rated 4/9/10

Another great bottle from CaptainCougar. Thanks again Tom. Opaque dark brown color with hilites at the edges. The tan head went nowhere. Aromas of dark toasted malt and light treacle. Full bodied with smoothly creamy carbonation. Flavor is dark toast, mild treacle, and hop bitter. The soul drains away with the sugars. Finishes mildly sweet, darkly toasted bitter. It’s an extremely good ale.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Interesting aroma of hatch green chilies, freshly fried corn tortillas, light roastiness, cocoa, bubble gum, some pesticide, overly ripen citrus, and light tobacco. Flavor of roasted malt, vegetable (most green pepper), caramel, nuts, and dry cocoa. Mouthfeel and flavor is a bit on the thin side for an Imperial Stout.
