Commercial Description:
This Russian Imperial Stout is an intensely flavorful beer. Chocolaty, roasty, fruity, and bittersweet, with a hidden alcohol presence. This beer was designed to be sipped slowly on a cool evening in a nice cognac glass. Let it warm up to get the full flavor. This beer won Best in Show at the 2005 NJ State Fair when Brian was homebrewing.

Thanks to mikey711 for this extra. Pours jet black with a slight off-white head. Nose is roast, dark chocolate, and a slight booziness. Flavor is deep roast complimented by sweet chocolate and a dry finish. Silky mouthfeel and a lingering bitterness show how nice this 10% RIS is. Like a lighter, younger sister of Cigar City’s IRIS.

Poured jet black with no light penetrating this one. Generated a dense one-finger tan head that hung around a little while leaving minimal lacing. Smelled of burnt coffee and roasted malts with a hint of hoppiness in the background. Sweet molasses smell become more evident as it warmed. Initial slight malty sweetness overpowered by the burnt coffee flavor. Tasted a bit more dark chocolate that the smell indicated. Only the slightest hop finish. Medium body and smooth with little carbonation. Bitter through the finish. A decent impy stout from this new brewery. Definitely an interesting use of hops in this and not quite what I was expecting when I opened the bottle.

Bottled sample via and shared with oakbluff. Black in colour with moderate carbonation. Malt centred aromas, with elements of dried fruit, fudge, and toasted nuts. Pale and caramel malts dominate in the flavor department, along with some mild coffee and chocolate notes, and a hint of green hoppiness. Moderate bitterness, and medium bodied. Ticks all the boxes stylistically, but it’s sort of muted overall. Not bad.

Pours out black with a small slightly off white lacing head. Aroma is of roasted malts and some chocolate. Taste is complex, very roasty, some smoke and some chocolate and slight coffee. Warming with a very well hidden alcohol content.

nice fruity aroma hardly makes one think beer. appearance is raisin wine like with light brown head that comes on short and does not stay around. flavor is strong of alcohol a bit raisin like with other flavors masked by the flavor of...rubbing alcohol and accompanying burn. gets fruity when rested or when diluted.

Thanks for sharing Yaniv! Dark dark brown with a nice tan head. Weird marshmallow over to chocolatey malt. Some in that roast, a bit sweet. Something here says smore... or at least graham cracker is suggested by the marshmallow... and then the chocolate. Full creamy palate with perhaps just a hint of chalk. Muddy chocolate flavors are heavy, the brighter chocolate I enjoy is very light, low key. Big roasty toasty flavors. Hops are big floral. Graham crackers? Again, marshmallows. Cardboard? Oxidized flavors linger, bringing this beer down unfortunately.

Headless ruby black, and does not transmit light. Malty pruney aroma without much of the typical roast.. Taste, on the other hand is very roasty, with lots of coffee and intense finishing bitterness. Mouthfeel is still, and semi-oily, and makes for a feeling of the beer being about 10F warmer than it is. $6/12oz

Bonus bottle from adrian910ss. Thanks Adrian. Pours a deep ruby brown red with no head. Nose is chocolate and malt. Flavors of chocolate, roasted malts, whiskey, and a slight hops bitterness. Mouth is full with a good amount of hotness. Enjoyable IRS!
