We made this beer using a single malt & a single hop (S.M.A.S.H.) to showcase the flavours and aromas of one of New Zealand’s greatest exports - hops! S.M.A.S.H. No. 1 was brewed using Wai-iti hops and german Pilsner malt and fermented at ale temperatures with a pilsner yeast. This delivers a balanced beer with mandarin & other citrus flavours and aromas.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Cookie. Not very tasty. Aroma of wet leaves, with some citrus. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and short lived. Palate is oily, and medium bodied. Yellow, with a frothy head.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle, 8C. Pale gold with a fluffy white head 2-3. Very modest aroma of grain, oranges, some lychees. Taste is sweet with some lemon as well as sweet oranges and hay. Dry finish with moderate bitterness and lingering citrus. The finish in particular is well done, but the beer is kind of meek.
