UPDATED: MAR 30, 2012 A deep dark porter with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, a smooth chocolate with light coffee notes, light soy sauce. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate with coffee grinds, vanilla, alcohol warmth, mocha coffee, beautiful. On tap at the brewpub, March 17, 2012.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of very rich roasted malt. Flavor again of sweet rich roasted malt, vanilla, nougat, molasses, and sweet lagery (the only descriptor I can think of) malt. Good stuff. 7/4/7/4/14 [3.6/5]

VTHopHead (1387) - Barre, Vermont, USA - NOV 29, 2009
Draft at the brewpub - Poured a dark brown in color with a medium tan head that settled to a covering over the beer, Aroma is malty with roasted malts and some chocolate. Flavor is also roasty and slightly sweet with hints of chocolate, dark fruit and some bitter spices. Even though it has a fairly high ABV, alcohol is not apparent at all. Drinkably dangerous...

(Rating #2534)

In short: A roasted Baltic porter that is more drinkable than it should be. Almost a session brew. Very good.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Main flavours are a medium level roastiness, toasted cookies, some black liquorice and cooked raisins. All that is followed by an effective grassy resinous bitterness. The beer sure does not feel sweet or syrupy like many Baltic porters. Alcohol well hidden. Another nice beer from Bobcat Café. Drinks like a 6% brew. This brewpub as improved so much since my first visit and getting so much good comments that they will soon be able to sell undercarbonated beers at twice the price.

My Bottom Line:
From this cracking Baltic Porter seep plentiful raisins and biscuits, a complex and drinkable flavor display which also evolves into roasted angles and dark chocolate ideas.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the dark brown hued blackness.
-Alcohol is not really apparent in the flavor profile.
-This could use a few more dextrins, imho. Although in the strong lager category, this could not be crisper and more drinkable.
-These guys’ are brewing top notch, amenable lagers. Bravo!

On tap at the Vermont Brewers’ Fest.
