Dark brown and clear. No head. Bourbon and sweet smells, like a dessert. Lots more bourbon in the taste, and not as sweet as the smell, which is odd. Icy? Thin and metallic.

Thanks to sflpunk for sending me this one! Dark brown pour with a small head. Nose holds big barrel notes of vanilla and caramel. The flavor and palate brings some light roast, baker’s chocolate, and decidedly present lactic creaminess. Fine, but not notable in any way.

Dark brown sepia, large bubbled beige ring. Manure, brownie, hay in the nose, light chocolate and spice. Soft spiced chocolate, coffee in the flavor, bit of dry bitterness like brown malt in the finish, decent, dry if a bit chalky, unoffensive if a bit singular.

500mL thanks to craftycarl21. Tepid, deep, clear, brown looking slightly black in the glass. Thinning, quick tan head. Nose is dessert heavy, rich, mild cigarette ash. Taste is thinner with buttery slickness ending very sour and thin. Not very good.

Bottle shared by craftycarl21. Pours clear dark brown to black with a small, fizzy light tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is leather yeast, roast and coffee malt, licorice and oak with light sourness. Flavor is dark malt, light smoke, vanilla, dark fruits, oak, and a sweet finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

Sampled at the DC gathering at GT’s place. Clear dark brown pour. Pretty much what you’d expect for a REGULAR (not impy) stout thats been wood aged. The wood is fairly pronounced, and the roast from the base is overpowered. Meh.

Bottle courtesy of craftycarl21, thanks! Pours very dark brown with a coca-cola head. Aroma is rootbeer, coca syrup. Taste is vanilla, milk chocolate, port wine. OK.

500ml bottle at brewpub.
Appearance : Pitch black with small head.
Aroma : Sweet roasted malt with nice hot peppers. Light bourbon on nose but not too much.
Taste : Hot peppers with roasted malt. Notes of chocolate and bourbon. Finish has very nice roasted malt flavors with light woody notes as well as bourbon. Nice warming finish. Soft carbonation.
Overall : Big surprise here. Very well balanced bourbon, not overdone. Great peppery finish that is mellowed by the sweetness provided by the bourbon. The regular version sometime feels a bit thin and lacks depth but with the barrel aging it’s much more complex and the body is fuller. Big surprise.
