Is the Munich Black, a beer created in 1888 following the ancient Munich tradition. It is distinguished by its intense toasted flavour with a sligthly sweet final touch, an equilibrated beer without the excessive bitterness that other beers of its category have.

33 cl can. Amber/brown with small off-white head. Flavour is malt, caramel, fruit and alcohol?

330 ml can. Dark brown and clear. Medium-sized white fine-laced head. Delicate caramel aroma with a hint of coffee. Crisp roasted malty flavours with a strong dry note of caramel. Dry hoppy flavours. Surprisingly bitter with a papery and strawlike bitter finish. Clean, but quite nice.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013 Rerate, 250 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Basically the same impression as the first time, but this is a very drinkable beer, which in the cute nip bottle may serve as a first introduction to darker beers for the average pale lager drinker. Not very sweet. The experienced beer enthusiast will look for more challenging beers. Original rating: 330 ml can, kindly shared by my beerpal Jan Magnus. ABV is 5.4%. Dark ruby colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma of malts, caramel and butterscotch. Thin mouthfeel. The flavour has very moderate notes of malts and caramel, low bitterness.

Bottled 33cl. Not overly complex. Nicely brewed and rather enjoyable. Low bitterness. Good drinkability. A very nice, smooth and tasty american dark lager.

Can in Spain. Clear dark brown color, thin off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is quite bitter, somewhat roasted, slightly sweet and overall a bit watery. Watery texture and average carbonation.

Bottle. A - Dark cola brown with slight ruby-brown hues. Average sized foamy beige head that had pretty good retention and left a nice thin lacing. S - Not much aroma comes out. Some toasted/slightly roasted dark malt. Maybe a touch of caramel/sweetness, but it is pretty thin. T - The slightly roasted malt is upfront with a good dose of caramel malt. Sweet but not overpowering and a nice slight bitter touch. Malts had a fairly grainy taste to them. M - Medium to light body with average carbonation. Pretty smooth and a touch watery. D - Very drinkable beer. Provides some sweetness and some bitterness (although pretty minimal hop taste). On the lighter side for a bock, but it went down easy. Notes: Had this in a bar in Barcelona while watching a game. It isn’t quite a bock, or at least what I think as a bock, but rather blurs the lines with a schwartzbier. Maybe due to the weather in Barcelona, the bocks are lighter and more lager-like. Anyway, nice fairly tasty beer that was better than what I was potentially expecting in Spain.

Beer with rice is not god for ratebeer (impression of myself) Aroma and taste are not the best. Sorry for a medium old company like damm. Visca el Barça.
