3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Poured a deep, garnety brown with a loose off-white ring of head. Aroma was of sweet, lightly-smoked caramel.. somewhat artificial, but I enjoyed it.. accented by some herbal and leafy notes. Flavor was of dark, sweet, toasty caramel with odd sharp notes.. mild herbal bitterness accents it fairly well.. bit of chocolate emerges with warmth and was quite nice. Light-bodied (a little too light).. nice balace, though. ** Scores likely inflated due to poor beer luck prior to this one. **

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Canned, Pals, Costa Brava, Spain. Dark crimson-brown colour, topped with a beige, lacy head. Malty flavour/aroma, burn toffee as well. Promises a lot to begin with however the shortness of flavour, simplicity and general lack of depth mean this beer falls short of its potential.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Niceclear red-brown colour with a medium fairly lasting off-whitish head. Bit roasty malt in the aroma along with some sweet caramel. Flavour is sweet and roastish with bitter hops, bit thin. The finish has some bitter-sweetness.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not quite a strict bock in that the beer is a bit light on percent, but it is a nice malty dark lager. Strong toffee malts long finish with a hint of bitterness

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2006 Claret-black body, yellowish head. Yeasty aroma. Flavour smooth and yeasty, with some iron and finishing tartness. Could almost pass as a B-vitamin/yeast-extract drink. A sweet black tonic missing the coffeeish bitterness of a stout. Not bad, but a little thin and bland. A sniff of Vimto? Re-rate 11/10/06... Sweet-sour lactose yeastiness. A teaspoon of marmite. Completely headless. Punches way below its proclaimed 5.4%. Watery, but not bland. Probably just the right balance of flavour and refreshment in 95F.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draught at Bar Boqueria, Barcelona. Not bad - but not that good really. Slight toffee and caramel in the aroma and taste, thin and dry, then a soft caramel and syrup finish. Not the worst beer I’ve had...

Lots of caramel malt to give a nice dark colour, but at 5,4% I would say it really is a bit lightweight for a bock. My Spanish is rather rudimentary, but on the label it says Negra Munich, and I think calling this a Münchener is closer to it. In Norway we would call it a bayer. Refreshing, full taste with a lighter aftertaste of roasted, almost burned malt. An excellent alternative to all the lagers available along the Spanish beaches.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Mahogany color. Too simple malty aroma, sweetish. Quite sweet taste with a lot of caramel, not strong bitterness. Easy.

Canned. Dark brown color, hazy and discreetly bubbly. Creamy and adherent foam, good persistence. Medium scent of burnt wood and toasted malt. Enough dry, wood and bitter taste in the end. Balanced and pleasant.
