3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Binnys SL (Chicago, IL). I was sold when my beer guy told me it the blend involved Cuvee de Jacobins. Pours a bright near transparent copper hue, reddish orange sunfire edges, bright life and glow with a moderate tannish head, carbonation driven as it dies to a decent film, some ring clinging small head remains. Aromas are vinegar, touches of metallic twang, sour cherries, wet oak, and more red wine vinegar which seems to become the dominant drive. Wet oak, yogurt, and lactic acid. Some vanilla, biscuits, and toast maltiness work there way in behind the more powerful sour edge. Initial is lighter bodied, posing a decent sourness up front. Bigger berry, cherry, with touches of raspberries, light dollop of vinegar, lactic acid, wet oak really sticks to the palate, fairly fruity with a decent sourness, though the fruit and base really peek through: wet oak, cherries, raspberries, toasty malts, biscuits, and a faint waft of sweeter toffee. I could definitely drink a lot of this, well balanced, a forgiving sourness that can really make all audiences accepting, but still with some life, not getting watery or malty sweet. Solid Oud Bruin that gets a touch sweeter as it warms, the lingering sour cherries, touches of lactic acid are nice and definitely aren’t fleeting. I could drink a good deal of this. It’s drinkable, has some life, and doesn’t skimp on flavors.. it also brings just enough sourness for a smaller beer. Pretty good.

Very nice Oud Bruin. Pours a deep amber color, some tartness in the nose with a hint of sour cherry. Flavor is very typical of the style. A pleasing tart cherry, caramel combo. Has a balanced acidity and refreshing finish. A good introduction to the style for anyone.

Clear amber color with thin white foam. Sour malty aroma with a notes of a summer wheat bear. Really nice tart and sweet syrupy flavor with with an extra sour crispness at the swallow followed by a buttery finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2011 Bottle 25cl. A clear dark amber beer with almost no head. Smell is sour like near to lambic style. Aroma is mostly dry with sour notes as well as classic cherry notes and burnt notes, body is no so complex, metallic notes especially at the finish. Not bad, but not a great oude bruin.

A nice, tart bruin, it is sweet but not overly. Just a great oud bruin. This brewery is great.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Translucent red-brown, thin white ring for a head. Bit juicy sweet nose, plum and cherry, some very simple cracked wheat, bit grassy. Flavor is lightly acetic, sweet cherry finish, too much acidity without clean sourness, but of soft lactic finish. Teeth clinging. The sweetness cuts the acidity for a nice balance, but it’s a bit empty after that.

Draft at Max’s. Red brown pour with a thin tan head. Fruity aroma with strong notes of vinegar. Very sweet, thought well balanced by sourness. Some cherry and citrus notes. Vinous and woody.
