COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: ABV ranges up to 6%.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

11.2 fl oz bottle. Clear mahogany with fine beige head. Delicate sour nose with some malt shining through. Also slight aromas of bbq meat. A little salty. Quite a beer already! Flavor kind of disappoints after the nose - it’s still good, but not great. Classic sour flavors with just a little funk. Just a little thin and watery. Light body. Very quick and dry finish - crisp and refreshing.

Brown pour with small foamy head. Good bit of carbonation. Aroma is grapes and cherries. Flavor is sweet-sour; cherries, apples, berries, malt with an acidic dry tart finish.

Fra fat på Brasserie Erasmus i Brugge 4 Mai 11. Delt med Rune. Mørkebrun. Svakt syrlig aroma. Lavt skum. Gjennomgående lett syrlig smak med innslag av frukt. En “geuze-light”. Lett-drikkelig.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a fine-grained ecru head. (Ooh. I got to use the word ecru.) Nose is sweet and complex -- it puts me in mind of an aged Riesling with a touch more toast. Very nice. Sour up front, then moving into a slight sweetness before closing bitter and sour again. Finish is long and citrusy. I really like this beer.

Aroma of caramel, sour cherries, and other dark fruits. Pours an ugly red/brown with a highly carbonated and frothy head. Tastes of tart cherry but quickly becomes malty and pleasant. Very enjoyable balance of Belgian tastes.

Dark murky chestnut brown; medium khaki head. Tart fruity slightly buggy aroma. Very nice Flemish sour. Not nearly as intense as the Cuvee des Jacobins, more approachable.

Bottle @ home. Very nice clear ruby red / brown colored beer with a decent sized beige head. Smell sour and cellar. Taste artificial sourness with some fruits. Suitable soft carbo, low to medium body.

Sour dominates this Flanders Brown for me. Flat head, light bitterness and sour aftertaste. Not exactly my favorite style and this may be a basic Sour Ale recipe.

Bottle poured into draft. Bought this on a whim and a prayer that it would be a half way decent sour but it fell short. Not a too much going on in the aroma depart, nor the flavor. Slightly tart with hints of fruit but nothing that great.

Tap. Brown ruby pour with a clingy white head. Aroma of orange and apple. Medium to lighter palate with very soft carbonation. Taste is apple without the tart element. Maybe a touch bland but decent.
