Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

TASTE: mild notes of red fruits and black cherries, with a cask background note. mild sourness and Brett notes. Restrained bitterness with a mild acidic finish. wine-like finish. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. slight astringency. OVERALL: a very nice Flanders Red Ale with all the characteristics.

Dark red colored, small not very lasting beige head. Aroma is of some caramel but mostly tart fruits, lactic acid. Taste is light to medium sweet fruity, bit caramel, light funk, bit toasty, tart fruits, vinegar, moderate sourness. Medium- bodied, average carbonation. (on tap, Gainsbar, Kortrijk)

Vanderghinste Oud Bruin 5.5% Aged in oak barrels for 18 months with a cool label that stepped out of the 1940s. A reddish-mahogany with a filmy beige head, this beer has an oaky aceitic tangy aroma. Medium bodied the flavor on this is really drinkable with a sandpapery mouthfeel. I love the 25cl size which is perfect for people who like trying many various brews. The taste is sweetly tart, vinous, raisins, mildly acidic, and malty bready goodness. For I believe about 500¥ this is an incredibly approachable Oud Bruin. Paired with a Black Masala Chai chocolate bar it went from good to amazing.

Abv 5,5. Brown color liquid, mellow acidity with some notes of musty and cherry. Very drinkable oak aged Flandern red ale.
