Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Some nose of esters and mild fruityness. Mild aroma of fruity esters and mild sour. Not bad, but lacking compared ti other wild ale, but considered it’s blended, fairly good.

Alluring wild/sour aroma in a deep copper-brown pour. Lovely sour-tart fruity taste with just a hint of bubblegum in both the body and the finish.

Trade with Dean. Name is misleading, doesn’t taste anything like an Oud Bruin. Clear dark ruby, tan head. Decent aroma and surprsing bitter taste, not too sweet, just enough. (Velp 201508)

From NOTES. A: Slight funk. Decent tartness when the bottle is opened, but quickly fades. Not a lot of scent to this one. A: Dark brown/amber. Huge head that retreats to a frothy amber rim. T: Tart dark fruits followed by some light Belgian yeast. Breadiness comes in along with a touch of hops to create a good balance for the style. Slightly tart after-taste. P: Light and bubbly carbonation on the mouthfeel. O: I wish there was more funk and tart, but a solid brew.

Solid, reminds me of basic Rodenbach. Pours brown with red tint. Nose is vinegar, plum, grape must. Taste is sour apple, cherry. Not too complex, but refreshing.

C'est sirupeux et sucré au nez. En bouche, c'est riche, onctueux, sucré et vinaigré. La finale est sucrée, acide et râpeuse légèrement. Bien bon ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very nice traditional Flemish red/brown. Decent appearance with lovely clear garnet color and some head with a bit of lace. Rich aroma of caramel, wine must, a little fruit. Flavor’s like nose with strong sweet tart character up front and and finishes moderately. Good body that fits the style. Does seem a tad boozy at the very end. Quite drinkable.

250 ml bottle, as VanderGhinste Oud Bruin, brewed at Brouwerij Bockor Kortrijk, BB date 06.06.2013, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.5%. Deep brownish red colour, moderate off-white head. Interesting sourish aroma of oak, farmhouse, red wine and red wine vinegar, spicy notes too. Medium sour and fairly sweet flavour, fruity and vinous notes, the hops are hardly noticeable.
