COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: ABV ranges up to 6%.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Bottle. Clear deep red brown with minimal light brown head. A fruity aroma with hints of caramel. Medium sour and light on the bitterness. Light body and quite thin texture. Short finish. A very refreshing beer but a little to thin in aroma and taste to be top notch.

Sample at the 2014 Infected Chimipalooza on 11/01/2014 (as "Vanderghinste Oud Bruin"). The beer pours a ruby-brown color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of tart fruit, wheat and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of mildly sour fruit, oak and herbal yeast. The finish is mildly sour with a fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours from a 11.2 oz. bottle a clear, dark mahogany with a thin off-white head. Aroma’s of lacto, iron, hint of dried fruit, raisins. Taste starts with a firm sweet that quickly shows it’s medium tartness. Zippy and flavorful, caramel malts are intriguing and a bit different for the style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with fairly clean and abrupt tartness then a mild lingering finish of iron and malts.
