Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Bottle. Clear deep red brown with minimal light brown head. A fruity aroma with hints of caramel. Medium sour and light on the bitterness. Light body and quite thin texture. Short finish. A very refreshing beer but a little to thin in aroma and taste to be top notch.

Super sour tart scent to it. Brownish red ale with little to no head. More sweet less tart sour ale with smooth dry finish. Full body with quick refreshing carbonation. Love sours but not as bitey and the carbonation doesn’t last as long as some sours I’ve had. Nice work!

Sweet and sour fruity aroma with hints of red wine. Pours almost a root beer brown with ruby tinting. Medium light tan head that fades quickly. Tart cherry. Sour apple. Just a touch of fruit sweetness. Crisp. Tart on the finish. Nice.

Shared, distributor rep donated to the session, 11.2 oz. bottle, poured to snifters showing a clear, ruby highlighted, brown tone, with a modest layer of bubbly, off white head foam, and light spots of lacing. The nose was lightly earthy & barnyard-like, then sweet, with cherries, and a hint of vanilla. Light to medium bodied, with good spritz to the carbonation, the taste followed sweet, yet nicely tart, with low, earthy bitterness. Fairly balanced as a decent Flemish Sour.

Bottle @ home. Ramato carico, decisi riflessi rubino, limpida. Schiuma beige grossolana, scarsa e poco persistente.

Roodbruin bier zonder schuim. Smaak is fris zuur en licht zoet met iets van bessen, bramen en sinaasappel. Volgens etiket is dit geen Oudbruin maar Roodbruin - Flemish Sour Ale hetgeen overeenkomt met de stijl. Al met al goed bier.
