Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Really balanced sour brown - nice tart cherry/apple, not extremely lingering. Could use a little more meat to the mouthfeel.

On tap @Buskers Pub (Rome). Pours deep amber/reddish with a decent off-white head. Aroma of sour red fruits, caramel, yeasts, light vinegar, nice. Flavour is light sour with a sugary end. Medium body, medium carbonation. Nice, despite that sweetness.

Body is medium with lightly sweetish flavor, light sourness and dark fruits - light cherry fruitiness. 0.25 l bottle from De Bierkoning as ’VanderGhinste Oud Bruin’, best before 6/5/2016. Clear, deep brownish red with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan head. Sweetish-sourish, fruity-malty aroma of vinegar, bitter almond, red wine, dark cherries and oak. Sweetish-sourish, fruity-malty taste of vinegar, red wine, bitter almond, dark cherries and oak, followed by a short, tart and oaky finish. Medium body, slightly astringent and spritzy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nicely balanced, aromatic and refreshing, but not overly deep or complex. Still nice!
