Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Really balanced sour brown - nice tart cherry/apple, not extremely lingering. Could use a little more meat to the mouthfeel.

250 ml bottle. Pours a dark amber brown colour with a white firm head. Aroma of tart cherries, some wood and toffee. Rather rich flavour of tart cherries, wood, some raspberry seeds and mild bitterness. Nice acidity. Medium bodied and a sharp, wooden, dry finish. Surprisingly good. Nice and sharp with it’s acidity.

DWG; Love the retro and plain logo. Pours clear copper to dark brown with a rocky to creamy, lasting lacing off-white head. Aroma is malt, sour, berries, yeast and caramel.Taste is sweet, light bitter, spicy and lasting. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Wasn't expecting to like this. I did. Dark cherry amber pour. Cherry and fruity sourflavors. A lot going on in a low ABV beer

24.03.2014, tap (as VanderGhinste Oud Bruin) @ Crowbar:
Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish, caramel, sour winegum, grass, butterscotch, sour apples, soda powder, hints of paint. Taste is slightly sour-ish fruity, sour winegum, sour apples, sorrel, soda powder, butterscotch, caramel malts grass. Little bitterness, kind of a metallic mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Aroma is fruit, dark fruit/grapes and a good hint of sourness. The flavor is grapes/dark fruit, malts, berries, a hint of earthiness and a mild/medium sour finish.

Bottle poured into snifter. Dark ruby with finger of off white head. Smells slightly of fruit and malt. Tastes like cherry up front, then vinegar like taste kicks in, pretty tart. Also malt but not a whole lot. Palate is kind of light and easy drinking like juice. First sour and not so bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
