Smells nice and fruity, wild yeast, sweet smell. Nice amber color, no head, tastes good, but I prefer the other brews I’ve tried from Bockor. Some light sweetness, nice sour taste, low bitterness, good and fruity. I got no criticism here. A nice clean brew to enjoy after a hard day at work.

There seems to be some debate about whether Bockor Bellegems Bruin is a Sour Red/Brown Ale or a Flanders Oud Bruin. I don’t know enough about either style to weigh in, but I can conclusively say that this makes for a fantastic dessert beer. Aroma is malty and fruity, albeit a bit understated. Flavor is more complex than the aroma would lead you to believe. Fruits take the main stage with sour apple, pear, strawberry, raspberry, and black berry. Even while working in the background, malts offer some unique flavors, too: caramel, brown sugar, woodiness, and even a hint of booze. It’s the kind of beer that seems made for a slice of fruit pie, fresh out of the oven.

A- Slight funk, malty, wheat, slightly sour.
A- Reddish brown color, clear liquid, tan head.
T- Black cherry, woody, caramel, smoke, teriyaki sauce, black pepper.
P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish.
O- Quite good for my first sour brown/red. Lots of different flavors on the palate. The aroma was a little lacking but the taste made up for it.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Head quickly fades to a tan, thin but lasting top. Very aromatic with strong sweet-fruit and sourness Almost candy-like. Wonderful maltiness countered with a strong bitter sourness. Finishes with lighter, cookie like flavors. Only thing I don’t like is a slight lingering metallic flavor.

Brown light body and a small white head. Aroma of malt, sour fruits. The taste is medium sweet and sour. Short finish, watery. Not in the same leage as duchesse, rodenbach and so on. Easy to drink.

Served on tap in a chalice glass
Appearance – The beer is served a brownish red color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head fades rather rapidly leaving a good level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer was heaviest of a cherry smell mixed with a moderate amount of vinegar and a bit of grass. Along with these smells are some funky smells and a light amount of a yeasty smell. Rounding out the aroma are some tart cranberry and a light earthy aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a lightly soured cherry and bready taste. As the flavor advances the sourness increases but never gets too overwhelming. The cherry flavors get stronger as the flavor advances as well with it taking a much sweeter flavor as the taste moves to the end. All the while some yeast and a bit of grass comes to the tongue along with some more vinegar to leave a rather moderately sour but very easy drinking sour.
Mouthfeel-The body of the beer is medium in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. Both are fantastic for the mix of sour and sweet and enhance the more easy drinking nature of the brew.
Overall – A rather tasty and easy drinking sour. Not the best out there, but very enjoyable.
