Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Waarschijnlijk een prima bier in zijn soort, maar niet mijn favoriete stijl. Ziet er wel smakelijk uit, aroma is ook prettig, maar de zurige smaak is aan mij niet zo besteed.

Draught @ Take One, Maastricht. Dark red-brown, off-white creamy head. Aroma and taste are sour fruits like cherries and apples, tard, some woody flavours, nicely light sweet. Medium body and carbonation, rounded mouthfeel.

Bottle at the Anchor, Birmingham. Supped after the last session of the Birmingham Beer Bash and really enjoyed too. This was a lovely, easy drinking Belgian sour. Sweet yes, but smacked with tangy fruit. Lacks depth, but is a great beer as far as I’m concerned. Great label too.

Dark brown with a small creamy head. Faint aroma, some rapsberry. Taste is soft and slightly tart, cereals/pilsner malt and rapsberries, sweetness. Thin body, soft carbonation. Short dry after taste.
Too soft taste for my liking in regards to the style.

Bottle pours murky reddish brown with pillowy tan head. Aromas of barnyard, vinegar, plums, pears. Moderately tart and sweet. Medium body, syrupy. Light carbonation.

Draught as Vanderghinste Oud Bruin @ De Klep, Venlo. Pours cloudy coffee brown with creamy, stable light beige head. Clear, vinous aroma, with touches of yeast and subtle notes of hops. Intense vinous flavour, with estery and fruity touches. Hints of metal in the aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel despite rather lively carbonation. Decent.

Reddish brown body with very tiny head. The taste is very fruity. Maybe plums and raspberry. A little sweet and sour taste. Really odd beer. I don’t know if I like it or not :D
