COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: ABV ranges up to 6%.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Waarschijnlijk een prima bier in zijn soort, maar niet mijn favoriete stijl. Ziet er wel smakelijk uit, aroma is ook prettig, maar de zurige smaak is aan mij niet zo besteed.

Bottled sample via oakbluff. Ruby in colour with medium fizzy carbonation. Aromas are of tart cherry pits, pale malt, vanilla pod, and a bit of wood. A bit more woody in the mouth, along with elements of cherry cola, and more tart cherry. Mild, and easy drinking overall. Sits somewhere in between standard issue Rodenbach and Rodenbach Grand Cru in terms of complexity and sourness. Solid.

(bottle) pours a clear deep ruby colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of strawberries, light balsamic vinegar, bubble gum and vanilla, with a hint of lemon juice. flavour is quite sweet, lots of caramel, brown sugar and raisins, with a slightly tart balsamic vinegar finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

The nose is bright with grapes and vinegar. The taste starts with a vinegar tartness and gives way to a grape and slight tart cherry taste. The backend has a nice malty base. The mouthfeel is sparkly and acidic. Overall a very solid with nice sour taste and aroma.

Bottle:   Chestnut sort of color, moderate sudsy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Slight funky nose, a little dank and basement like.   Smidgen of some sort of fruit thats not too distinguishable.   Tart on the tongue, a little Belgian Brownish in its earthy mustiness, bit of old cherry/kriek flavors bring up the backside.   Not a bright Sour by any means, but flavorful.   Certainly not that sour, moreso a little tart, very light dryness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes like a Belgian Bruin with a bit of Sour mixed in.   Pretty entry level stuff, and bordering on not Sour at all.   I would say this is a Belgian Ale that happens to have some minor Sour characteristics.   Decent, but pedestrian.

0,33 bottle. Dark red with a lazing beige head. The aorma has notes of fruits and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and fruits, dry, crisp finish.

Not very sour, not very sweet... Little white head, smells like brown sugar with some apple. Taste is much of the same. It’s like when you add some fruits to some black tea. Very balanced and drinkable though. Should be great with some smoked cod.

From Beer Temple. I love this style. This one started quite tart and then smoothed out rapidly. Thin body, not as tart or sweet as other bruins. Quite refreshing. Serving: Bottle
