COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: ABV ranges up to 6%.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Has a nice fruit flavor. Palate- A medium bodied beer with little carbonation. very sour but goes down dry. Overall- The most sour beer I have ever tasted to date. On draft. Plum brown color, medium haze. Moderate fizz, light lacing. Really interesting beer. Sweet, sour, sweet with a mixed fruit palate. Medium body. None of that barnyard funk getting in the way. Delicious Flanders red.

Robe brune, reflets rouges.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate cola, cherry, faint vinegar, and a hint of metal. It pours a somewhat transparent orangish-brown with a small white head that eventually fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of cola and cherry. The finish light vinegar, faint lemon, and a touch of Belgian yeast. It’s light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

Pours clear brown with one finger of beige head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is muted, dark fruits, vinegar, cherry, oak. (7/10) Taste is mild to moderate sweet, mild to moderate tart. (6/10) Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mild astringent finish. (4/5) Pleasant mildly fruity and lightly sour oude bruin. Some vinous and woody notes add some depth and complexity, but not a whole lot. A little more intensity would be nice, but it’s pleasant as it is. (15/20)
