COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: ABV ranges up to 6%.

Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient West Flanders Brown beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "Bellegems bruin". The main ingredients of our Bellegems Bruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a bottom-fermented beer. Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months results in this specific West Flanders Brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

Keg at Capital Ale House Innsbrook. As Vanderghinste. Pours a clear copper with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of tart cherries, stone fruit, mild vegetal notes. The taste is tart cherries, stone fruit, earth, acetic sourness. Medium bodied, mild lingering tartness. 9800th rating.

25cl bottle, and had it as ’VanderGhinste Oud Bruin’. The lovely dark red, even brownish body is accompanied by a light red gloom. The very vivid and sparkling liquid - due to the lively carbonation - adds to the aroma of the old brown. It has notes of cherry and even caramel. It’s a perfect "foeder", which can be preserved long after its bottle date. The medium body, the very long ending, the sweet sour notes combined with the bitter mouth: A great drink and the best thirst quencher. Good to know that there is still a batch of fifty bottles in my beer cellar.

Bottle 25cl. Clear dark red brown color, good frothy light tan head, diminishes slowly, light lacing; aroma sour cherries, vinegar, woody notes; taste medium fruity sour, slightly sweet; medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste soursweet, fruity, bit woody; very nice, so much better than all those trendy fruit beers out there.

Bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown color with white head. Sour, cherry, slight medicinal, raspberry aromas. Sour fruits - raspberry, green apple, and cherry mainly, and slightly sweet flavors. Very solid. Worth another visit.
