UPDATED: JUN 12, 2015 Bockor’s Hoegaarden epigone, enjoyed in an outdoors café in Ghent. Deep golden blonde with good fizz, frothy snow white head. Soft wheat character with the usual coriander and curaçao notes, relatively subtly so (fortunately, I’d even add), refreshing touch of lemon, bit bready, straw; soft and lean body, banana accent, lightly spiced with a fresh lemon peel accent and of course the coriander, light wheat sourishness, sweetish bready malts, bit yeasty finish. Boring and totally lacking in originality but technically okay - just another one in the standardized witbier style. Nevertheless, considering Bockor (now Vander Ghinste) used to make only plain lagers and awfully sweet ’lambic’ derivatives before their Omer became a national hit, this is certainly decent for what it pretends to be and surely no less acceptable than Hoegaarden Witbier itself, perhaps even a bit more genuine.
