COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

From BA review on 2-19-12 - Poured from bottle into chalice style glass Appearance – A deep red-brown color which formed a moderate head upon pouring. There was a bit of lacing on the sides of the glass upon the loss of the head. Smell – A sour cherry aroma hits you up front and persists throughout the aroma. Toward the end a more vinegary aroma mixes in to the sour cherry. Taste – A nice sour cherry taste meets the tongue. The taste matches the smell quite nicely, and as soon after the sour cherry hits, a bit of more vinegary/acetic acid taste comes into play. It leaves a very bitter and sour taste on the tongue. While sour and bitter it is surprisingly very nice. Mouthfeel –The sourness mixed with the bit higher level of carbonation which when combined make it a a slower drinking beer. The thickness is rather moderate, but again, due to its sour nature, it is one to sip and enjoy over the long haul. Overall – A nice dryer sour. It has lots of sour cherry flavor and some nice aromas. A good slow sipping light abv. brew.

Poured into a tulip (the glass, not the flower), this ale displayed a reddish brown body with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is sour cherries (stems ’n’ all) and some rust. The flavor is tangy with the cherries and also seems to carry a splash of vinegar. Sour and refreshing, this is a very nice beer.

Cherry, some cocoa, tart but with semi-sweet finish, mahogany hue, refreshing, great representation of the style.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Welch’s grape juice on the nose. Deep ruby red in color (might have been lighting in the pub I was at). Minimal frothy white head. Mouthpuckering sourness up front, tasting of sweet tarts: little sour cherry, some bitter chocolate, oak. Finishes incredibly smooth with plum and apple cider flavors. Crazily complex. Palate: refreshing carbonation with a light body. Finishes long....
