COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2013 A refined flemish sour loaded with all the complexities expected from the style, very nice

A vibrant garnet body, which transitions to a deep amber when fully illuminated, sits beneath a quickly fading 1" light khaki head, the lower portion of the glass covered in medium sized bubbles sprinting upward
-
Flavors and aromas are nicely balanced and cohesive, layers of acidic earthy barn, lemons, sharp tart cherry, raspberry jam, white and red grapes with creamy yogurt rounding out, all expressed through a smooth medium body alive with sourness and controlled carbonation creating a slick, sweet and sour coating on my palate, a deeper sweetness appears in the residual reminiscent of chocolate covered cherries

Bottle 33cl, a dark amber beer with good creamy head. Nose is very oude bruin like with vinegar and cherry notes, well engaging. Aroma is quite acid, red fruit notes such as blueberries and redcurrant, blackcurrant, dry, less wood touch compare to Rodenbach for instance, vinous, some diacetyle. Enyway a nice beer, better when not too fresh.

Bottle from Charleston Beer Exchange. It pours deep ruby with a quickly dissipating off-white head. The nose is earth, wood, vinous, acetic, damp wood, red berry and jammy fruits. The taste is tart, juicy cherry, vinous, lemon sherbet, Granny Smith apple, wood, some crisp acidity, red grape, faint jam and sour candy with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Really nice juicy tartness going on. Pretty delicious stuff. Bravo Bockor!

On tap at Stone World. Pours cherry red, translucent, with a small head, no lacing--looks nice. It smells tart, various fermenting fruit aromas, complex. It has a light body with medium carbonation, no hops or alcohol present in the taste--it tastes a lot like "sweet tarts" candy, and raspberries. I’m coming around to this style, this is a very nice selection.

Aroma is of vinous cherry. Cherry might slightly dominate the sour smell, but still great. Very sour taste, but cherry and oaky/woody fruit flavors balance very well, not as pucker sour as say la folie. Lower carbonation, but not too noticeable. Everything just works well with this beer. Near perfect, and a must for sour lovers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the LCBO. Rusty red-brown body with a small and quickly descending head. Flavour and aroma both have big notes of sour cherry and balsamic vinegar, with supporting oakiness and a hint of sweet vanilla. Crisp body, and a long, dry, tart and refreshing finish. A stellar sour!

Pours a deep burgundy. Sour red wine vinegar and cherries, along with oaky notes too. Similar flavours. Nice and sour. Very good.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours crystal-clear rusty brown with a thin tan head. Pleasant sour cherry and caramalt aroma. Sour/tart flavours hit the tongue immediately, giving way to subtle fruity notes and a super-clean finish. Big body, silky smooth. Great.
