Tap at Night of the Funk. Vegetal, sour, kimchi aroma. Spritzy with medium levels of acidity. Salad greens and sugary wort. I drank this at the very end of the night, so I’ll need to revisit it, but at least the initial impression showed this to be no Ommegang Rouge.

On tap at Falling Rock poured a clear dark reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of sour cherry, basalmic vinegar, toffee, light barnyard and a hint of spice. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a tart finish. Flavors of sour cherry, oak, barnyard and light basalmic vinegar with a crisp lingering tart finish.

Tap at the maproom- Chicago. Brown pour with garnet hues. Fluffy tan head and spotty lace. Figs, sour cherry and vinegar on the nose. Full acidic mouth-feel with notable hints of cherry, lemon and light vinegar. Really solid flanders

(draft) Clear deep red body with a touch of brown, topped by a small beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, wood, sour cherry. Taste is medium sweet, wood, cherry, good sourness, fair sweetness to complement the sourness. Light-medium body, light stickiness, acidity. A wonderful Flemish sour -- a bit bolder than the Duchesse.

Draft @ The Trappist. Pretty much just stumbled upon this one (Ali was the one who actually ordered it, after I’d ordered a pour of Allagash Confluence.) Pours a deep, clear ruby-red color; off-white head with glistening, fine-bubbled lacing; good retention. Generous aroma of tart red fruits: well-soured, highly acidic, cherry pits and lemon, with a light core. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: very nicely sour, mouthwatering: tart citrus, red fruits, high acidity; just a touch of oak in the background, if at all; a very solid, rather straightforward and intense sour red ale. Sweet tart red fruit. Lasting finish of sour red fruits, citrus; tartness lasts.

Draft op tap at the Binnys South Loop taproom (Chicago, IL). Pours a deep dark brown with glowing rusty red, dark and not quite opaque, a moderate brownish tan head that stays at a decent film, laces well. Aromas are a good potent sour cherries feel, a touch sweeter, with a good sourness, light vinegar, and wet wood with a bit of funkiness in there. Nice sourness, moderate. Initial is a decent body, decent sourness with a touch of vinegar, dry and lightly vanilla oak come into play, some lactic sourness sticks to the palate, decent sourness, decent acidity, with a touch of vinegar, sour cherries that push a little more sweetness that temper the sourness a little more and kinda mute the finish and aftertaste just a bit. A solid sour, more sessionable but lacking a ton of complexity. Still, quite tasty and very welcome after a long work weekend. Cheers all.

This is a surprise, its rare to be able to gte a new sour these days without trying. Tap @ Small Bar in SD. Pours orange with a tan head. Big tart nose, taste is decently tart too. Surprisingly deent.

On tap at The Belgian Cafe in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. Very deep maroon color, little head, and with a deliciously tart and nicely sour cherry flavor. Right up there with the best of the Flemish sours.

12oz pour at Pizza Paradiso in Dupont Circle, Washington D.C. Pours a slightly translucent purple, mahogany amber with a very very thin, ringing white head. The aroma is my only complaint about this beer. At first the nose has very little, as it warms some tart berry aromas come out, cherry and cranberry mostly, red grapes, a little funk, a little hay, a little bit of citrus fruit. Flavor is spot on for a sour: bitter from citrus fruits, tart from the acid, strong lactic acid flavor, sweet ripe fruits, slight funk, toasted grain, a little splash of wood. Finish is tart, bitter, sweet and dry. I liked Ommegang Rouge better based mostly on the aroma but the flavors were also more developed. This was very drinkable though, something you could drink many of.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2009 Tap at small bar. Pours a ruby red with a beige head. Notes of sour cherries, horse blank funk. Flavor is. Medium tartness,chocolate, funk. Like a fua funkier version of la folie? But I’m drunk and typing this on my fucked up phone. Awesome beer though. Great balance. Nice funky tartness. don’t pass up the chance to try this
