The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

UPDATED: SEP 5, 2013 Re-rate. Draft at craft ale house. Pours hazy reddish with a huge off white head. The aroma has a lot of vinegar and cherry juice. The taste is lightly tart, sour cherry, abrupt finish but very nice. Very good sour.

11.2 oz bottle. Deep, clear purple brown with a thin beige coating and bubbles on the edge. Nose is red wine vinegar, sour cherry and horse blanket. Juicy with a sour bite and a sparkle. Taste is raspberry jam, cranberry and toffee with a touch of cigar in the finish. Bright and fruity with spot-on carb and acidity.

Such an enjoyable sour ale. Amazing sweet/sour balance of flavor. Rich orange candied sour notes that seem to continue forever. Dark cherry notes with some vanilla on the finish. Really good. Highly recommended.

Der saure Beginn wirkt leicht gesüßt, was aber nicht schlimm ist. Frisch, angenehme Kirschnoten, rund, sehrsüffig. 11/10/11/11/11/11

Bottle thanks to Mar. Puts light brown/red with off-white head. Aroma is very acidic and dusty. Flavor is acidic, rustic, cherry. Light mouthfeel with fizzy carbonation. Overall, excellent brew.

Very strong sour beer. Red in color with a thin, white head. This beer really makes your glands water!

Bottle at Gainsbar. Dark red/brown colour with little golden head. Aroma is predominately sour but with a touch of sweetness too. Lots of cereal, dark fruit, marzipan and lots of acidity. Taste is very sour, vinous, then mellows in mouth to sweeter yet still sour finish. Quite spiky, and plenty of sour fruitiness.

Dark, clear reddish-amber with a small ring of off-white head. Aroma of sour cherries, chocolate, sour apple, and vanilla. Taste is good and sour and a bit sweet and woody. Medium bodied and slightly syrupy. Very nice.

Wow, I was lucky to have this. What a solid sour ale. Great funky nose, must and oak. Taste is green apple, cherry, subtle oak. Amazing carbonation and mouthfeel.

Dark ruby, fluffy tan head. Smells of tart cherries and raspberries, sugar and sweet caramelized oak, apples, limes. Has a burst of tart and acidity, cherries and a multitude of berries with some lemon bringing out the citrus, evident sweetness and strong sourness. Strong up front sourness and acidity, with a nice sweetness all around like granulated sugar, reminds me of the feeling of eating a pear. Bit of a sipper with the sweetness and acidity.
