COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer Cuvée des Jacobins is unblended old lambic, aged for at least 18 months in (French) oak barrels from the cognac region. These oak barrels are called ’Foeders’ in Dutch. It has a robust character but is beautiful and sophisticated with a full body and overtones of vanilla, dried cherry, stone fruit and cocoa. It is a complex, beautiful sour beer.

Absolutely stunning a delicious sour beer! Found on a dusty shelf in a small beer store in New Jersey, those people don’t know what they are missing. Aroma was great. Strong must, vinegar and stale malt. My mouth watered at first whiff. Pour was a murky dirty red with no bubbles or head. Taste was perfect. Mouth puckering sour and full of flavor. Heavy sour cherry that never ventures into the "sweet" territory with strong doses of vinegar and malt. The finish leaves the top of the mouth feeling the sour sting for quite some time after the swallow. Carbonation was mild but fitting. Wish I could get this regularly.

Wife ordered this draft at Lost Dog Cafe in Arlington, VA served in a snifter glass, hazy reddish-amber color with thin white head. Aroma of sour fruit (apple, cherry), vinegar and light wood. Taste adds notes of vanilla, tartness, some straw, bread and some mineral. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, dry with lingering tartness. Intense pleasant sour-tart beer, my wife made an excellent choice!

Bottle. Nose is wood, vanilla, cherry, green apple, peach; very nice. Taste leads sour before migrating to a puckerish sweetness. Taste of cherry, green apple, vanilla, slight citrus, a little cola and caramel in the sweetness in the finish. A complex and delicious beer.

Unfortunately the cooler this was kept in isn’t functioning correctly and the beer is served too warm. For me this is a beer that does need to be at least somewhat chilled. This had a great head and lace. Had a very aromatic, pungent aroma. Cant pick up some of the finer qualities as they’re lost in the acidity that more fully expressed with the warmer temps.

The pure, lambic-like ’foederbier’ from Bockor, normally used for the production of their fruit beers. Loose, snow white foam, warm golden colour, cloudy. Strong lactic acid in the nose, yoghurt, lime, apple peel, honey, cookies... Taste delivers what the aroma promises: a lacticly acidic beer, soft and smooth, very refreshing, funky fruitiness, paired with a rounded, honey-like sweetness for balance and finishing in a long, dry acidity that cleanses mouth and throat. Delightful even if this isn’t a ’real’ Senne lambic.

This is my favorite beer. The fresh sour taste makes your mouth water for more with each sip. Lovely flavors of cherry, mouth-puckering sour with vinegar. Taaaaart. Just wonderful. The best sour beer I have ever had. Draft or bottle, you can’t go wrong. Go have one.

Tap at Bottleworks, Seattle. Aroma: tart vinegar, cherry, straw Palate: Has a light-medium body. Starts with a sappy almost honey-like or light nectar-like body. Get a burst of carbonation on the mid-palate Flavor: vinegary cherry and straw, turns sappy and then a slow exploding intensity of the cherry flavor on a long tart finish. Comment: This is a fun, wild ride for the palate!

Man ska inte sparka på de som redan ligger ned. Därför måste jag av gentlemannamässiga skäl stå över den här recensionen.
