UPDATED: OCT 19, 2009 440ml can, as shown. This is one of those cans (like Guiness Draught) that comes with a plastic ball inside to keep the texture smooth, mellow. And it works: Poured into the glass it’s all foam first, then after it settles produces a small, but creamy and persistent head, and the carbonation is almost non-existent (despite the crafty phhhfffft it made when opening the can). This really feels like an on-tap beer. On the downside, there is almost no aroma (faint citrus and malt), the taste is rather bland, too. A little hop, a little malt, and a smooth, not-very-bitter-ish finish. Drinks very quickly, should be an easy-going on tap pint at your local pub. But very simple, and very plain.

Draught @ Kings Hotel bar in Brighton.
Clear golden with a short but pretty nice white nitro head that leaves thick lacings. Not much aroma or flavour, but a decent refreshing fruity bitter with a mild hoppiness. It lacks body but regarding me being swedish it beats most folk beers every day. Carbonation is soft but still a bit refreshing.

It has a sweet malty creamy aroma with notes of oranges and a little sourness. The color is orange and it has a fine foamy head. The flavor is a creamy malty one, with a note of oranges, in the end it turns a little bitter. A very drinkable and refreshing beer - but not bitter enough for a bitter.

Canned (thanks to mabjorks friend for bringing this from the UK). Amber colour, mediumsized white creamy head. Aroma is hops, grass and some slight metallic notes. Flavour is malts, bitter hops and some slight metallic hints.

clear yellow, smooth white head.
faint aroma, hard to detect.
flavor is watery, malty sweet, faint hopped, nice balance, but pretty watery and weak. would work fine in a pint glass on a hot day instead of water.

I think Boddingtons bitter is an acquired taste. I don’t mind it ; however, it is a simple beer that is not complex really. Yellow color with a hint of orange gives way to a large creamy head in a glass. This is a bitter beer with a light taste and goes down easy. Prefer this in draft than to the the Pub Ale in cans I get in the US.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2012 Another beer that polarises opinion and I have been guilty of drinking another one to remind myself why I shouldn’t have tasted the first. Fortunately we’re talking years between sittings. It just seems to grab you by the tonsils and whirl you around it’s head for a while. Not a good accompaniment to a meal, a funeral maybe, but not a meal. (2.2)
Some six years after my first review I have to point out that the initial rating was based upon a fairly fresh entry into the world of beer. In hindsight I realise this review is less than charitable. However, the only parts of the rating that warrant increase are the appearance and the overall. So not bad, but not great.

This beer can go from excellent, to undrinkable, depending where you drink it. A good pint is used to be found in Manchester, but like many other beers, brewed elsewhere now. The smell isn’t the best, but taste makes up for this. Good ale, tasty beer, fairly smooth. Not too fussed on the cans, other beers taste better in cans.

Pours a golden color. Aroma is of malts, caramel, and some bitterness (english water). Flavor seems to pretty similar. Has a bitter malt finish. Even though this might not rate too well when it comes to drinking, this is absolutely a great beer for cooking with! I definitely recommend this for that purpose.
