Old friend Boddington and I go way back to when my homebrewing pal, mwendt, introduced it to a summer gathering of my college roomates. It has since become a staple of such gatherings and its creamy, easy drinking quality makes it work well to accompany our adventures. I give this one good marks not only because I remember fondly the days when it represented real beer to me, but also because I find a decent spicy-sweetness here, and just enough hops to keep things interesting.

This beer makes quite an impression! Enormous smooth creamy head atop a golden ale (well, it takes a while, but eventually you see that there’s a golden ale). Sweet aroma and smooth, slightly sweet flavor. Pretty mild beer, no bite to it whatsoever, although there is a trace of bitterness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very good beer. Pours with a thick creamy head that lasts longer than the beer, much like Guiness. Nice golden color. Quite a bit of hop, but well balanced. Oh, and as a side note, I dig widget cans.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2004 I enjoy the widget can, but it is much crisper and flavorfull on tap. Creamy and thick, with just the slightest bitterness at the end. The widget cans are becomming more available here, even at local diners, I suspect this might be brewed stateside now by contract? anybody know?

Had one of these after my Fish and Chips dinner last night at the Old Bag of Nails in Upper Arlington (this is quickly becoming my favorite hang out). This brew pours a light clear golden. The thin creamy white head has the consistancy of a Guinness draft head, is fully lasting and has very good lacing. The nose is mostly fresh flowers with no shortage of honey aroma; some piney hops and toasted cereal are also detectable as the brew warms. The flavor is sweet if not complex, but still balanced with an average bitter finish. The light to medium creamy body has such flat carbonation that it feels stoutlike. The finish is metallic and chalky. Interesting.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2003 Nice flavor and aroma Great all-purpose ale. Creamy simple hop/malt flavor lasts throughout with a wonderful bitter finish. Very important to pour correctly or experience is diminished.
