I guess this is supposed to be an example of an English “session beer,” but it doesn't really rock the american palate. The widget-type bubbler gave a good tall, cascading head (and this from a can that sat in my fridge for two years) that stayed with the beer and left a nice lace on the sides. Could not detect much aroma, which is better than smelling skunky, I guess. English pub style watery mouthfeel was uninspiring, and I couldn't pick up much taste, just a little residual sweetness. Nothing lingers much after the swallow. Nothing terrible, just not inspiring.
This is the same impression I got from the first can in the four-pack I got two years ago, so at least it keeps very well in the fridge. RAYBOY01 (1873), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Tastes Ok with a mild hop bitterness. SudsMcDuff (1868), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA

Thank you ONSLO! This is a nice ale that I enjoyed in a draught can! I enjoyed the creamy head and super crisp after taste that follows, a true classic that you can enjoy over and over! quite bitter! oh ya!
rerate: on tap.. looks the part but the flavour is odd..i prefer the can i think but who knows.. if i feel like a widget beer go with guinness or youngs double choc... Beer2000 (1865), Kristiansand, Norway
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 7, 2007 500ml can (Draughtflow system). Pale body with plenty of small bubbles from the nitro device. Foamy head. Not much aroma, some slightly roasted malt. Flavor is slightly roasted malt with a hint of caramel. The body is light and much to aroma. This nitro stuff makes the beer smooth, but it’s very one-dimensional. Noting really wrong here besides the thin body, but really boring in fact. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 26, 2007 Pour was a caramel gold with a 1 finger off white head. Aroma of malt and syrup with some hops in there also. Taste was caramel and malt in the front with a light thick texture and hops bitterness in the aftertaste. I’ve had this a million times and after rating understand how average it is.
