3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thingfish (7) - USA - MAR 3, 2007 does not count
Let’s see...I first discovered this brew on tap in Dunstable U.K....I was blown away!!! A lighter colored beer that could hold it’s own with the mighty stout! But...after finding it canned in the states I was really let down! My rating it biased...I combined the two experiences! If you are ever in the U.K. Do everything you can to find this beer! In the states....look elsewhere!

Frothy light orange yellow colour with a thick lasting creamy tan head. Smells of malt and sulfur, probably from the widget. Some caramel. Light thin flat body. Starts with a faint sweetness and moves to a unpleasent bitterness. Light feeling of cardboard and alcohol. Not sure why its so popular.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Nightfall (1231) - Hamburg, GERMANY - JAN 16, 2012
Many times at the Pub near the place I used to work in Piraeus. Amber colro with a huge off white head. Sweet malty aroma with citric fruity touches. Creamy. Swet malty taste, orange, lemon, just slightly bitter and quite light,

[440ml can, Sainsbury’s Edinburgh] For my 1000th rating, I wanted to tick off something close to my heart - so it had to be Bod’s (not Boddies - Bod’s). The first beer I ever drank, many, many years ago. It’s changed a lot over the years - but then so have I. For the first few years, I never even saw what it looked like, as it was hurriedly drunk from the can, trying to avoid the bobbing widget. But it pours a deep golden amber, with a voluminous tight white head. It used to be the cream of Manchester, but not any more. Aroma of oaty, biscuity malt, sweet and slightly hoppy. Creamy mouthfeel, sweet and with some gentle hops. Softly carbonated, very smooth on the palate, and with almost no alcohol in evidence - other than a faint, middling bitterness. A classic English session bitter, fond memories from my early drinking years. Is it a great beer? No - it’s a shadow of it’s former self. But it’s still worth drinking every so often, if only to reminisce [15012011] 1000th rating
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 seymour (607) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 17, 2011
Tasted pint can into imperial pint glass. Poured a clear golden color with creamy white head, thanks to the nitrogen widget. Cool gimmick, vigorous, lasting carbonation. Faint aroma of classic English grainbill and hops. Bitterness is mild, but probably true-to-style. Other reviewers who claim Boddingtons Pub Ale isn’t bitter are unfairly comparing it to IPAs and hyper-hopped American Pale Ales. This is an evolutionary relic, and just what an English Pub Bitter should be. Bready taste, malty sweetness balanced by earthy English hops, slightly more residual bitterness than sweetness, mildly fruity ale yeast esters. Very refreshing with a mildly fruity aftertaste which finishes dry. Pretty good stuff.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 herrbrown1974 (96) - Toronto, CANADA - NOV 14, 2011
Nice amber pour, creamy head that sits seemingly forever. That’s about it. Extremely mild sweet malty aroma. Same goes for the flavour. This beer is unexceptional and has almost completely no character. On the bright side, it’s inoffensive and has a smooth mouthfeel. If I were to go into a night knowing I was drinking 10 pints, this might not be a bad pick.

Don’t you hate these widget powered beers where the thick white head lies on top of the brown body like a seperate entity? Quite ordinary and inoffensive, but no real need to seek it out. Bland is the word.
