bottle, on christmas 2011 ’santa bee’. Dark brown colour with foamy white head. Smell: clove, alcohol and sweetness. Taste: overwhelming and overwhelming clove. Sweetness, alcohol, syrup. Ok for some gulps, but gets so monotone. Not the best Xmas-ale ever for sure.

Very hoppy for a dark beer. Somewhat of a surprise but not unenjoyable. Bit of a metallic aftertaste.

Bottle at a Max tasting. Pours a hazy iced tea with thin beige head. Vegetal aroma, funky old cheese, a bit of caramel, and a touch of lime. Flavor is syrupy caramel with some club soda funkiness and an odd presence of peas. The finish is dry with more of that off pea quality.

Test vom 17.3.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,9,8,10,13,9 - 9,20

On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter. The pour brings a beer that is dark brownish-red with a very slight head. There is a pretty good lace presence throughout. While the appearance was nice, it went straight to hell from there. After one sniff of the nose, I really didn’t know if I’d ever be able to ingest any of this, though I powered on. The nose is a really strange piney smell--almost like a chemical cleaner. There is a bit of detergent in there and also strong bleach. Pine Sol and solvent. It’s really, really bad. Finally, I take the plunge and go for a sip. All of the disgusting-ness of the nose is present, though the notes aren’t quite as pungent. Inexplicably, there is a light bit of raspberry flavor along with the pine and solvent. The feel is really bitter and a bit sour. Light body and low carbonation. This is bad, bad, bad. To sum up: "it smells like burning." Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-18-2010
