UPDATED: MAR 6, 2008 Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a hazy brown colour with a rich lasting white foam. Yeasty aroma of figs, canned pears, brown sugar and nuts. Full-bodied and malty sweet with notes of toffee, milky chocolate, nuts and brown sugar with touches of black pepper. Long malty sweet and warming finish of raisins, pepper, brown sugar, fudge and alcohol.

Bottle, 33cl swing top. Except for the sediments in the bottle, it was a clear, reddish-brown beer, with a small, beige head. Some sweetness in the aroma, as well as dried fruits, but it was a rather boring one, considering it’s high alcohol and origin. Sweet flavor with dried fruits and alcohol. Maybe a bit one-tracked, but I like it. The alcohol were present in the finish too, but well hidden, overpowered by caramel and roasted malt. Full-bodied, quite effervescent. I prefer it’s sister Boerinneken, but this one’s good too. (080112)

Bottle. Thanks to Fonefan. Pours dark unclear amber with a good creamy white head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits (prunes & raisins). Yeast & the dark fruits dominates the taste. Some caramel & brown sugar. Very filling & soft body. Complex & warm. Nice Belgium strong ale!

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet and quite spicy combined with strong notes of caramel, as well as notes of over ripe fruit, prunes, and some yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel sauce, alcohol, prunes, over ripe fruits, yeast, and brown sugar, leading to a slightly alcoholic, dry, and woody finish.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2007 O Belgium, I’ve missed you. Fizzes noisily from the swingtop a beige-collared chestnut. Twiglets, mouldering apple, demerara, liquorice, currants, probably coriander aroma. Who cares what it tastes like?? The mouth is silk, caramel smoothness, Belgian candy...but with enough earthy dark fruit, dirty yeast and gentle roast to back it up. Precisely the kind of beer I’ve been starved of lately. It’s just so...deep and harmonious in comparison. And it’s not even a great Belgian beer. The prunes and enigmatic peppery spice are emerging now. A lurking, Orval-like hint of sharpness. Creamy, muddy, carrying its power with elegance. Think I need a lie down. Finally, spiced applepeel earthiness, suggestions of clove and nutmeg. Evil beer.
