Pours a very dark chestnut brown color with slight mahogany edges and a frothy, pillowy two finger yellowish tan head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Visible carbonation bubbling up and sporadic spots of lacing left behind. Roasted chocolate malt aroma with roasted coffee, dark fruit, licorice and candy sugar notes as well as some subtle hops. Again, the flavor contains a lot of roasted chocolate malt with hints of hazelnut, roasted coffee bean, dark fruit, peppery spice and licorice notes. Very nice balance of sweet dark fruit notes, mostly cherry, plum and raisin, and nice roasted malt with slight bitter dry hop finish.

Bottled (as 149). Very deep ambery brown almost opaque black colour, mediumsized brown foamy head. Aroma is dark berries, liquorice, some roasted malts, as well as toffee. Flavour is dark fruits, liquorice, smoked wood and roasted malts. Rather bitter and sourish smoked wood in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Medium high lasting creamy light brown head. Hazy very dark red brown body. Cream coffee caramel aroma with a hint of alcohol. Roasted barley malt flavor with caramel and coffee. Fair amount of hops bitterness and orange peal in the aftertaste. Low carbonation. Long aftertaste.

Courtesy of bhensonb. This dark brown ale poured with a decent tan head and a strong chocolate and alcohol aroma. The flavor is chocolate and coffee with an alcohol trail that belies its relatively low ABV. The orange peel is barely detectible.

Bottle as # 127. From Monument in Concord, CA. Pours really, really dark with a decent tan head. Aromas of very dark malt with notes of citrus. Near full bodied with firm carbonation. Flavor is floral and citrus. Really, exceptionally, smooth and tasty. Finishes with a hint of orange, but lots less than expected [label said dark ale with orange peel].
