Cask found in the Wenlock Arms, North London. Not listed on the Boggarts web-site or Beermad so a rare treat to find and sample. Curious name - pours to a dark just about see through colour coming across in appearance as a dark or old ale, or is it a porter? Initial taste is tangy and spicy, and an overall mild vinegar flavour, not unlike the famous English sauce itself. On the palate this soon gives way to an underlying pleasing fruity taste - plums, dark sugar and molasses dominate leading to a very smooth, iif unusual finish as all the different textures combine in the swallow. With every taste there is that sweet/sour combination that makes this pint very rewarding and interesting. I could not make up my mind what style of beer to categorise it as so have put it down as a porter here, the closest comparison I can think of is Burton Bridge Porter, one of the finest English porters IMHO, but this had just a bit more of an interesting edge.
