Small, yellowish-beige head over very dark brown beer, with a foxy shine. Sweet nose, with a dark bread aroma. Roasted malts, dry, but aromatic. Very neutral taste, lightly sweetened ink, dark German bread, faint acidity included. Fruit-of-the-mothercorn. Light bodied, but not thin, even slightly creamy MF. Not bad, but I’ve experienced better Schwarzbiere.

Sep 11, 2007 Bottle from Pivovarsky Klub. Dark. Spicy and fruity Schwarzbier. Some chocolate, caramel and sweet flavour. Also some fruits come through. Creamy and quite enjoyable.

On tap at Cafe Svejk. For sure the best of the bohemians I had this evening. The pour is dark brown with a offwhite head. The nose is very malty and taste dominated of roasted malts, caramels, vanilla and brown sugar - almost too much sweetness. The palate is surprisingly rather waterish and thin.

Draught at Cafe Svejk. Clear dark dark red/brown - offwhite head. Ryebread, roasted, berries, light light smokey notes, straw, hay, chocolate notes, caramel, dark fruits. Light bitter finish.

Bottle. Thanks ChristianScheffel. Dark brown colour with a small head. Aroma of dark malts and bread. Flavour is malty and has a touch of smoke. Bit dull.

50cl bottle. Pours dark brown nearly black with a small bubbly head. Nose & taste is bread & toffee. Slightly roasted. Sugar/syrupy. Hints of rye-bread & butterscotch which is not pleasant.

Bottle @ TFODRBSG, Ulfborg, 2008.
[thank you, ChristianScheffel]
Pours deep red-brown with a small, creamy, yellow-brown head. Aroma is sweet, light caramel, some butterscotch and lightly roasted. Fine, dry mouthfeel. Flavour is quite dry with notes of cold coffee, chocolate and softly roasted malts. Long, lingering, dry finish. One of the better bottled Czech beers.

I could describe the smell as "barnyard toffee" but I don’t think that is a good marketing strategy. It is slightly roasted, sweet, malty and funky and probably not appealing to all but I have a kink that it serves amicably. Taste has coffee, chewy roasted malty goodness and it all comes to a close with a nice sweetness and throw in some hops too. Oh and did I mention the velvety body? I didn’t, I can read back you know but now I did. A great low ABV beer.
