An export lager, garnet in colour, with a clean roasted malt flavour that provides a full round bodied taste. A beer shaped by history and age-old traditional Czech methods.

I could describe the smell as "barnyard toffee" but I don’t think that is a good marketing strategy. It is slightly roasted, sweet, malty and funky and probably not appealing to all but I have a kink that it serves amicably. Taste has coffee, chewy roasted malty goodness and it all comes to a close with a nice sweetness and throw in some hops too. Oh and did I mention the velvety body? I didn’t, I can read back you know but now I did. A great low ABV beer.

50 cL bottle. Pours deep brown with a golden amber glare and diminishing tan head. Roasted malt and raisin fruity yet dry aroma. Flavour is dry breadish with a distinct roastedness. Mild fruity towards the finish and with a mix of roasted acidity and hops bitterness.

Dark molasses in colour, its like a thick treacle; Rich sweetness and a dark roasted smell rises out as soon as you pour; It has all that darkness in taste too, you get the roasting in there and the bitterness is tempered by the subtle sweetness; you get a slightly bitter aftertaste but it almost heads in to that chocolate flavour.

Medium brown head. Deep dark red barely translucent body. Sugary roasty toffee aroma with licorice notes. Dry-sweet delicate roasty taste with smoky earthy notes. Mild mouthfeel. Dry earthy roasty aftertaste. Not very complex, but delicate and harmonic. Nice! (0.5l bottle, Vantaa airport.)

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Whole Foods. When Czech beer is good I love it and this is one of those. Excellent dark dark brown looks with a very slight off white head. Nose of dark fruits, plums, raisins (I don’t even like raisins), brown sugar and flambéd christmas pudding. Excellent. Flavour is exactly the same but oh so good. Slight dark chocolate too. To be honest I am stunned by this. Such character and complexity for a 4.4% beer. Certainly drinks above its strength. Late bitterness only enhances the experience. An excellent dark lager.
