3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 14, 2004
Roasted malt fruitiness gleaning toffee, hazelnut and dates in a collective mud...Crisp, dry, flowery hoppiness leaning on the heavy dark malts...A numbing smoky mineral nature screening the pleasant effect of the malts...All in all, this is definitely on the brown ale side of dunkels...
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jeppe (2631) - Řlbutikken, DENMARK - AUG 10, 2004
Draught at Cafe Svejk, Frederiksberg, Denmark. Thick light tan head, clear dark amber body with a red gleam. Aroma is sweet roasted malty with some grassy and light spicy tones. Pilsner malt is dominating in the flavor with a note of brown sugar. Tasty but ordinary.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jukkabro (3486) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAY 25, 2004
Dark red color with little and disappearing head. Nicely roasted, malty and fruity aroma make nice combination. Flavor starts with some carbonation in your tongue and continues with strongly roasted and very soft coffee tasting malt. Hops cut this softness nicely, also some carbonation can be noticed in the end. Somehow very dimentional beer but still misses some more character.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TBone (9999) - Pori, FINLAND - APR 10, 2004
Bottled, 4.4% ABV (BB 27.06.04, labelled "Bohemia Regent")
Dark ruby color with creamy steady tanned head. Aroma has some caramel sweetness and roasted malt. Typical dark malt/roasted dunkel flavors with some bitterness in the finish but quite thin palate.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ThomasE (5176) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - FEB 1, 2004
The best thing about this beer is it's looks. Nice deep red colour and a good looking head. Taste is disappointing, with a simply to sweet taste for my liking. Raisins is dominating the taste. There are lots of better czech dunkel's.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 5, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2007 (Bottled) Clear, very dark reddish brown color with a medium, beige and fluffy head. Sweetish, syrupy-roasty-malty aroma with some metal and sourness. Roasted-malty, slightly sour flavor with some color malt burnedness and metallic dark fruit hints. Medium-bodied, neutral and slightly acidic palate with medium carbonation. Almost like a thinner version of a German doppelbock. Color malts have been used, but not excessively. A nicely balanced, traditional Czech dunkel.
(Bottled, rated 1/5/2004, was 3-4-6-3-12=2.8) Nice red color, head builds up if not poured carefully, but diminishes quickly. Very mild aroma, not very pleasant. Thin but sweetish and smooth flavor, bitter finish. Not as good as it looks.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rickgordon (3815) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 24, 2003
Draught at The Rover, Göteborg, Sweden.
Dark copper colour. Buttery aroma. Cocoa flavour with notes of butterscotch and a some licorice. Nicely bitter in the finish.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 duff (5484) - Lund, SWEDEN - AUG 12, 2003
Raisins, caramel, burnt toast/roasted malt. The aroma hinted at this being quite sweet, but it ended up having a nicely dry finish. Some nice lightly herbal, fairly bitter hops at the end (bottle GBBF o3')
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nuffield (3348) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 12, 2003
Someone just gave me a piece of toffee with a hint of tobacco. Big molasses, definitely molasses flavor, and some honey. Dark mahogony color. Dry to my palate, with a quick finish. Interesting and rewarding, mostly for the aroma. (bottle at GBBF 2003)
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Duksedrengen (8) - Vallensbaek Strand, DENMARK - JUL 21, 2003 does not count
Draught. The aroma is moderate malty. The colour is brownish red which is quite beutiful and the head is a nice light brown colour. The flavour is bittersweet in its character with a lot going for it.
