chinchill (1799) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 2, 2013
500 ml bottle served in a Unibroue snifter. Pours a very dark brown, clear with a thin tan head that soon reduces to a ring. Only a little bit of spotty lacing is left on the glass. Light aroma of sweet chocolate malt with hints of toffee and caramel. The flavor is a bit too sweet despite a trace of sourness. The best part is the aftertaste, where the roasted malts come to the fore. Near medium body with a good but low level of carbonation. O: A bit below average for a Czech Tmavý.

0.5l bottle from Bohémia Sörszalon. Starts with a thin creamy brown head vanishing too quickly. Dark brown body with a little red influence. Carbonation is mild, perfect for me, silky-creamy mouthfeel. Taste is on the sweet side but a hint of bitterness is also detectable. Roasted, dark chocolate and a bit if cherry. The second half of the bottle becomes slowly a bit syrupy. Drinkable, but uneven: the start is promising, the finish is disappointing.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with not much head sticking around. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty black malts and dulce de leche with vanilla and very light smoked malt accent.. sweet, but very solid for the style. The flavor found sweet black malts and vanilla at the core, with sticky caramel accents on the edges.. finished sweet and tasty. Lighter-bodied and well-balanced for the style.. good stuff.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small head. Aroma is nutty caramel with some raisin. Taste has watery caramel to start with a raisin finish and a touch of coffee on the aftertaste.

worldbeertaste (1624) - AUSTRIA - OCT 1, 2012
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2012 Dark brown almost black and a red tint with a quick disappearing brown head. No lace. Smells like nut, roasted chocolate malt, heavy malt and sugar. Raisin. Medium oily body. Tastes sweet like raisins with chocolate, sugar. The finish is a little bitter on the finish like cherry.

Really good soft but still tasteful schwarzbier. Malty, mouthfilling taste.

500ml bottle. There is a nearly pitch-black porter-like pour. The head is tightly foamed ad slightly burnt in color. Nice lacing. Smell is rich decocted malt, dark fruits, and caramel. The flavor is like the Bohemian equivalent to a dark mild. Smooth, almost creamy cocoa notes with some dark fruit and a hint of earthiness. I could drink the fuck out of this all day and night.

Bottle - Reddish deep brown in colour, no head at all. Yeasty aroma and taste. Medium bitterness with some sourish roasted yeast taste.
