An export lager, garnet in colour, with a clean roasted malt flavour that provides a full round bodied taste. A beer shaped by history and age-old traditional Czech methods.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark brown with a thin, short-lived off-white head. Coffee and cream aromas, alongside a metallic note. Some chocolate. Taste has good medium roasted bitterness, and some more creamy sweetness. Good mouthfeel. Enjoyed it well enough.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2015 The new lable is much better I guess. Brown colour, one finger tall frothy head becoming a film then. Aroma of liquorice, caramel, roast, a hint of butter. Light to medium body. The density is exciting looking at the ABV. The mild sweetnes in flavour is blended with medium hoppy bitterness. The finish is hoppy enough and it’s pretty long. Later it grows to the similar aftertaste. Why didn’t I notice the pearl? The revisiting of this stuff is really a surprise.

Dark Brown, Almost No Head, Spotty Lacing. Slight Toasted Aroma. Sweet Toasted Malt, Reminds me of Raisins, Light Toasted Bitter Finish. Rather thin Body, not Syrupy or Cloying. At 4.4% ABV, probably the lightest dark beer ever. Therefore easily Drinkable, Refreshing and Enjoyable. Its Like Kvass that has some Alcohol. Would like to try it fresh. I’d say pretty good and would like to recommend it but scared to do it. There are no production or best before dates, so you can;t tell if it is fresh or two year old skunky drain pour. Try it at your own risk.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 Shared a big brown bottle from Global Foods into snifters. Okay, so all I comprehended on this label was Bohemian and lager, so I expected something like a classic Pilsener, and this is absolutely not that. It poured an opaque burgundy brown colour with thin but persistent beige foam and lace. Very malty, low peppery noble hops, intensely caramelly, toasty, reminiscent of black licourice. It struck me as a fancier, smoother kvass, or a less alcoholic Baltic Porter. Heavy body, not syrupy but close, low carbonation, residual sweetness. Not at all what I expected, but very unusual and cool now that I know what Tmavý Ležák is. I liked it alot, and want to seek out others. Very tasty.

Tallahassee, Fl - Killearn Liquors - 500 ml bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a quickly dissipating bubbly thin khaki colored head. Aroma is somewhat neutral with some light nutty and molasses notes. Flavor is decidedly sweet with some nutty notes, a brief hint of chocolate, some brown sugar and a molasses-like finish. Thick enough mouthfeel for the style.

Typical central European half liter bottle with a boring label. Coffee colored beer, filmy head. Sweet malty, damp straw aroma. Interesting flavor, but I’m not in love. Dilute cocoa, unfermented malt, crude sugars, moderate astringency, mossy/herbal tones. Medium body, faint horehound herbal notes in the finish. Underwhelming. I have not been impressed with this brewery thus far. Killearn Liquors.

Bottle. Sweet, caramelly dunkel with notes of raisins and dark bread. No chocolate nor coffee to be found, unfortunately. Subtle roastiness in the finish, otherwise bland and forgettable.

lupulonimbus (20) - Bucharest, ROMANIA - AUG 14, 2013
Rusty brown, small, transient head; caramel & resinous aroma, some grassy notes; moderate but clearly defined sweetness - rather on the pastry side, well rounded; lightly bitter; light body, silky, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. Predominantly malty, but remarkably well balanced, refreshing and nourishing; also soft - restrained, almost - alcohol wise (4,4%). One to keep in mind.

Sweet malty aroma full of brown sugar and a touch of dark bread. Deep brown with a foamy beige head. Sweet malt forward. Medium full bodied with a smooth silky mouthfeel.
