3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 legion242 (1870) - Richardson, Texas, USA - JUN 21, 2002
Very golden in color; Head was thick to start, but faded fast- nice lace though; Nose was just like Orval- dry hops. Palate is thin is the first impression. Surprisingly bland. Boring.

Very light and mellow belgian ale. Almost a session beer, even though it is 7.2%.

If it weren’t $10 a bottle it might be a session ale. It’s notably soft with a very thorough melding of yeast, malt and bitter. Some initial dishrag and brett aromas. Very nice presentation. Tart, citric, and some spice on the tongue belies it’s strength. Some lemony flavors with a hint of banana are balanced softly by a uric acid, tart and bitterness. Very interesting.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2004 Tasty Belgian 'session' ale (at 7.2%!). Fresh, hoppy flavours, less yeast than a lot of Belgians, and subtle complexity. I love the orangey-amber colour.

Nutty brown ale with a slight after taste.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 21, 2001
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2003 The beer pours a cloudless golden orange color, the head bright white, smallish in size, frothy in texture and it evaporates quickly leaving a patchy sheet of lace. Nose is malt, citrus crisp and fresh, somewhat sweet, as is the malt-laden start with a middling feel to the palate. Finish is brutally acidic, vinous, and the hops give a decent spicy bite with the aftertaste desert dry and long lasting. A drinkable beer, but there are many better Belgian beers to be had, and I can’t see much more than a bit above average on my numbers.
