3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Bold City. Pours a deep stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, some pine, cocoa, chocolate, and unsweet chocolate with spice and earth. Flavor is similar with roast, pine, cocoa, and chocolate. Medium in body and while not a red ale, still a great beer.

This brew is just not what you expect. Once you understand that it is good. Its is dark and roasty but not as heavy as it looks. It is like a red ale and a stout mixed, which is a really nice combo, especially mixed with a lighter brew like the dukes ( Red Dog!). I would say this is a great surprise, so try it!

Part of a flight at the brewery. As the description says, this dude is pretty roasty. Probably one of the roastiest strong ales I’ve come across. My favorite of the flight.

Bottle courtesy tarheels86. Pours chocolate cherry cola red/brown with tan, frothy head. Cherry nose with roasted undertones. Flavor is sweet fruit, sorta cherry-esque with chocolaty notes and a roasted undertone. nice body. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. A deep dark brown pour with tan head. Roasted malts in the nose. Taste is the same. Very crisp and very good! This is more like a Porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2010 Bottle - Thanks tarheels86!!! - Pours a dk clear amber with a large sandy hear...apparently the name is a bit of a red herring?? Aroma is malty and grainy, plenty of roast, light cocoa...flavour is sweet and fruity right up front, roasted grains, chocolate...lingering light bitterness...this was totally different than I expected...kinda thin for the abv, and not a real abundance of flavour input, but drinkable and enjoyable....

very nice in appearance with some foam, and its nice and red to brownish dark beer. Very sweet beer, nice malt levels, and for its style it is a dcent beer, its about my favorite they have. after a few its a tad too sweet and i like malty beers.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft… Deep, very dark crimson ale with a mid-sized, fizzy, off-white head. The aroma imparts lots of chocolate and espresso atop a mild wisp of campfire smoke. Medium to full-bodied and creamy with fizzy carbonation. The flavor provides sweet chocolate and espresso – mocha – and is decently balanced by adequate, but unobtrusive, hop bitterness. Roasted, coffee finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Bold City. It poured brilliant clear amber with white head. The aroma is roasty to burnt malts and really little else. The taste is malty sweet mixing with some crystal malts and a modest level of burnt malts as well. It ends with malt sweetness trying to compete with the layers of roasty goodness. Pretty darn roasty for a red ale.
