Rated 3/24/13.
Portion of a 22 oz bottle poured into a Hunahpu’s snifter. From notes.
A: Pours a dark brown color. The head is a one finger white shade.
S: Really strong black coffee dominates the nose,
T: Huge black coffee to start (seemingly a bit stale), with an underlying chocolate finish that clashes with the coffee qualities. Despite my reservations about the coffee seeming a bit old, the coffee profile itself is solid - the rest of the brew just can’t keep up.
M: Too thin, and too ’rough’ on the palate given its relative finishing sweetness. A bit hard to imbibe.
O: Plain and simple, this is a coffee brew searching for a proper stout base to hold it up properly.

651mL from Grassroots in Jax, FL. Thanks to drowland for the gift card! Murky brown pour, overcarbonated, large beige foam. Nose makes it more clear that this is infected with something: something like Brett, heavy phenols, muted coffee, a lot of plastic and detergent. After awhile the volatile chemicals subside and give way to something smokey and umami /savory. Taste is drained, tart lemon tea. No body. Some sweet tea but a ton of chalky yeast in suspension. Another disappointment and shows after 5+ years this brewery still has not gotten down the basics.

Bottle from Grassroots! Which is an awesome place. Pours with a HUGE head. Frothy and rich. I could float a bottle cap on the foam. Smooth and roasty with a hint of coffee on the back end. This was very nice and easily drinkable.

Good bottle, opaque black brew. Aroma is coffee with toasted soy nuts. A light sugary sweetness over a buffered coffee roast. Tangy. Drinkable, not too complex. Slightly light and porterish body. Buffered coffee finish. Decent session stout for the javaheads. Thanks to LuckyDog for sharing his growler.

Pours dark brown/cola like with thin white head. Aroma is chocolate malts and coffee. Taste is chocolate with a slight coffee bitterness. Palate is nice and thick. Good stuff.

6/4/12. 22oz bomber. Surprisingly light brown pour with a small tan head that fades. Bold coffee aroma with bits of dust and metal. Nice coffee flavor with light hints of chocolate and sweetness with plenty of lingering coffee. Not bad, really.

Easy drinking big coffee beer. Perfect with the peach cobbler I was having for dessert. Poured opaque brown-black with a tan frothy head. Nice smoky coffee aroma. The taste had a nice bit of caramel, dark chocolate, and subtle cherry flavor to go with the extremely smooth coffee flavoring. Sweetness helps to temper the bitterness. The body wasn’t too thick which helped with the drinkability. A fine coffee stout.
