3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GT2 (3953) - USA - JUL 18, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 26, 2009 Yay! I was at Bold City for the release of their second specialty beer. This is a vast improvement over the "B" Coffee Stout. Pours a very deep ruby that is nearly opaque with a good, one-finger tan head that has good retention and leaves some spotty lacing. Big aroma of pumpkin pie, maple syrup, hazelnut coffee. Taste is slight molasses with the flavors above. Has a nice background of spiced pumpkin pie and something like carrot cake. Eventually as this beer warms the body moves to some cardboardy dryness and nutty bitterness. Probably will try this out again when it gets bottled. 3.6
Re-Rate: Bottle. Lacing looks great along the glass. Big, light tan, very rocky head. Aroma is almost sour fruits. Not much pumpkin or spice at all. Taste is mostly cheap coffee. No pumpkins or spice. Watery body. Thin. More like Sierra Nevada porter than a pumpkin stout. Disappointing. 2.9

22oz bottle shared thanks to weearefinallyfinishingmybasement2323. Poured a dark brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of coffee, spices, roast, and some spices. Tastes of the same but on the softer and subtle side.

Dark brown / black with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, and light smoke. Taste of roast, chocolate, pumpkin spices, and a dry, roasty finish. A little thin.

22oz bottle-pours a light brown head and dark brown color. Aroma is coffee/acidic, molasses-dark malt. Taste is coffee/acidic, molasses-sweet dark malt. Body is more Porter than Stout. Not my style. 635311 2.8
2nd bottle I brought to Paul’s-got some spice-pumpkin with the roasy dark malt. Nice, no acidic this bottle. Can’t tell why the inconsistency. 647313 3.3
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 2, 2010
Bottle shared by tarheels86 on 1/10/10: Porus a transparent dark copper mahogany with a stringy-lacing beige head. Has a semi-sweet earthy nose with some funky brett notes. Starts with an earthy leathery dark chocolate flavor and some Tootsie Roll character and a touch of coffee before a drier slightly roasty earthy lingering bitterness. A weird brett infused coffee stout. Just not sure what they were going for here.

Poured a hazy deep chestnut color with an off-white head. Big coffee in the aroma. The coffee in the flavor had a tartness to it though. Like when coffee gets old. Light bodied.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Travlr (5379) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 12, 2010
Bottle courtesy of Tarheels86 at the first DC tasting of 2010.
Dark maroon color with a cocoa-cola style head that fizzes briefly and disappears. Aroma of chocolate milk and vanilla. Malts dominate the flavor, lots of alcohol, but a bit thin on body. Decent coffee and chocolate combo, but not a great example of the style.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 EricE (1288) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - JAN 11, 2010
Thin red tinted brown pour with a thick light tan head. Not much going on in the aroma. Slight stale and sour coffee flavor. Awful flavorless mess. Hints of stale coffee here and there. A bad beer.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 argo0 (9222) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 11, 2010
22oz bottle, thanks tarheels86. Medium tan head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, funk, some vegetal. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, funk, some roast. Medium body, low carbonation. Presumably infected.
2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 nimbleprop (2224) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 10, 2010
22oz bottle sampled at the DC local tasting. Smells like vegetables and coffee. One person at the tasting said it smells, "like poop." WHOA, tastes infected. Tart, vegetables, cherries, brett, spices, coffee. None of it marries very well. Finish is thin. A big, big miss.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 yayforbeer (744) - Orange Park, Florida, USA - NOV 19, 2009
Pint at the brewpub at the CASK Homebrewers meeting. Dark brown/black beer with tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark malts, and a hint of spice. Flavor is a big blast of coffee with some dark sweet malt, molasses, and chocolate in the background, and a bit of pumpkin spices. Pretty good stuff and an enjoyable brew, but you really have to be a coffee drinker for this one.
