Bold Rock Hard Apple Cider on tap is my preference for drinking this exceptional hard cider from Nelson County, Virginia. Crisp, refreshing start to this thinly textured cider. Clear, pale & sparkling. No head here--thank you! I want to get straight to THIS thirst quencher with its light body and soft carbonation. It’s touch of sweetness is balanced by a hint of tartness. Not bitter or astringent, but an exceptionally clean finish. It has become my favorite hard cider. I’m concerned I’ll be using this as my yard stick ... and not evaluating other ciders on their own merits.

Draft->shaker. Lite gold, apple juice, more sweet than dry. Ok when in the mood for a cider.

12 fl. oz. bottle picked up at the general store of Franklins Brewery, Hyattsville MD. Yellow golden in the glass, high carbonation. Fresh light herb apple at the nose. Starts with fresh sweet apple. Later a little bit thinner but always sweet apple. Okay.

Better than the other one I just had. Some apple here, ok package but a little too sweet still. On tap at DC Summerfest.

Bottle from Wegman’s Leesburg. Pours the color of apple juice with a thin white head. Smells a bit like apples. Slightly sweet on the tongue. Finishes with a fair amount of tartness. Kind of boring.

Serving: Bottle from a friends Charlottesville trip. It pours a solid yellow color with no head. The nose smells of straight apple juice. Pretty sweet. Good sweet cider though.

Flavor is sour apple and it has no carbonation. Left with a non smooth palate aftertaste.

At the DC Craft Beer Festival. Poured a very pale light yellow-green color, clear, virtually no head. Aroma was a lot of sweet apples, crispness. Not too sweet, but not too dry. Easy to drink. Actually quite enjoyable to me.

Bottle sample @ Bold Rock. The pour’s light gold with a tiny head. The nose is more mellow than Bold Rock’s Virginia Apple. Somewhat earthier, less tart. The taste is red apple, some compost, sugary candy. Soft body, fine carbonation. Decent.

Serving: Bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a solid yellow color with no head. The nose smells of straight apple juice. The flavor starts and stays pretty sweet with just a hint of tartness. I wouldn’t mind a little more balance here. Pretty standard fare for a cider.
