3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 FreshHawk (596) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAR 15, 2010
(Oxfam Blond). Bottle.
A - Light golden with a large foamy white head. Normal retention but a limited lacing left over. Lots of sediment.
S - Lots of spice (clove, coriander, and pepper) with a bit of citrus. Sweet smell too.
T - Lots of interesting flavors that are fairly unique. Good amount of grain that provides a good deal of sweetness. Rice and quinoa providing a lot of that. Good amount spice (same as nose). Really unique flavors and combination of the flavors.
M - Light to medium body with decent carbonation. A little watery.
D - I don’t think my palate would enjoy more than one as it isn’t the most balanced beer. Spices and sweetness grew a bit heavy and a little tiresome.
Notes: Really interesting and unique beer. While it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great. It’s probably worth a try if you have a chance and want to try something new and different, also it helps a good cause. That said, I probably won’t be buying another one.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 yngwie (8717) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - FEB 28, 2010
Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A clear, golden beer topped by a dense, finger-thick off-white head. Some higher alcohol on the nose, with apples and pears. Not entirely clean, but also far from awful. Malts, alcohol, fruity sweetness, some syrupy notes and bitterness. Medium body, slightly warming and pleasantly carbonated. Alcohol and fruityness in the finish. A decent beer, but there’s something wrong here, as the aroma indicates. 091024

Pours dark golden with a big, fizzy, off-white head. Sweet bready malts, some fruitiness, banana, red apple, yeast and a slight metallic edge. High carbonation, dryish mouthfeel. Flavour is malty sweet, caramel, bready, some yeast character and rather vinious. A bit of a herbal edge to it as well, probably the quinoa.
