2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, - MAR 16, 2007
(Bottled) Hazy, dark red color with a smallish, slightly tanned head. Ginger-ginsengy aroma with a hint of sourish malt, metal and alcohol. Ginger-spicy flavor, very similar to the blonde version, but with maybe a hint of ashy-roasty malt, more sourness, and more pronounced alcohol. Light to medium-bodied, a bit thin and alcoholic palate with high and foamy carbonation. Not as drinkable as the blonde version, IMO. Won’t buy again (either of them).

Hazy brown body. Small off-white fizzy head. Aroma of sweet malts, grapes, molasses, ... quite ok - good balance and ok complexity. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour in a good balance. Nice beer.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2012
July 2010: Formally known as Oxfam Bruin, this is a ’fairtrade’ beer with ingrediants from Thailand, Costa Rica and Bolivia. Only available from Belgian Oxfam shops (as far as I know), this one is from the one in Brugge.
Brown 33cl bottle (sediment within) poured into my Westmalle chalice.
Dark Ruby Red body, clear and clean looking, good covering of a light brown foamy head which left some lacing as the beer was sunk.
Very little smell, some roasted malts maybe, but nothing much.
The taste was sour at first, some toated malts, hints of coffee and chocolate, slight but just about detectable.
A bit thin and lacking in depth for a 7.5% ABV.
I’ll not be rushing out and getting a crate full of this, but one is fine.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Abio (1130) - Waasland, BELGIUM - NOV 1, 2011
Dark brown coloured beer, ok head, should just hold a bit longer. Smell is malts, caramel. Mostly sweet at the taste, lots of yeast, not to bad, but not well outbalanced neither. Nothing to get excited about.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 mike1977ok (1183) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 15, 2011
Murky brown colour. Intense carbonation. Aroma is very musty. Flavour has lots of cardboard and strong yeast, especially in the finish.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 MoritzF (7342) - Bochum, GERMANY - MAY 24, 2011
(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, dark brown colour with a mahogany shine and a beige and medium-sized foamy head. Earthy and slightly toasted malty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and a subtle fruity touch of dried fruits. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Dark malty and slightly toasty taste with leafy notes, dried fruits; mildly sweet with a tinge of a fruity and slightly tart sourness. Not overly convincing. 24.V.11
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 txspartan (666) - Wilrijk, BELGIUM - MAR 3, 2011
There is something terribly wrong with the flavour of this dubbel. Dubbels are supposed to taste great, this one doesn’t.
