Took a bit of chance on this as I picked up a crate from a supermarket in Munchen-Gladback. Never tried the style before but happily impressed with this. More of an autumn/winter beer. Heavy caramel overtones in this full bodied, smooth chestnut coloured ale.

50cl bb01/2015, tradecatered by idiosynkrasie, merci. Pours lukewarm like diluted cough sirup. Spookily dormant malzbonbon aroma, maybe a drop of Maggi, then Schluss. More diluted Vitamalz, Lutschbonbon caramels and a half-assed dryness in mouthfeel. Hops provide obtrusive metallics instead of aroma. A far cry from Boltens still modest Ur-Alt and in all aspects a very mediocre beer/Alt.

Aroma of malt, caramel, cardboard, nuts, strong metallic notes, hops. Flavour is light malty sweetness with a bitter finish. Body is a bit on the light side. Pretty typical Altbier.

Not familiar with the style so it is hard to compare. Looks nice deep clear copper. Small head and sufficient but low carbonation. Body it quite weak. Flavor is subtle with a nice hint of smoke some malt, bitter hops and caramel. There is a metallic element I do not like so much. Curious to see how they compare to others in the style.

500ml bottle @ Midlands Tasting Aug 14, at Richie’s Hop Palace. This will go down in history as Blackhaddock’s favourite Alt so I felt quite privileged that he chose to share it with us. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Smoked aroma, malts, slightly bitter. A decent alt.

500ml bottle from beers of Europe. Pours clear copper, thick off-white head, nice lacing. Toffee and slightly metallic aromas, light herbal notes. Taste is light sweet, more toffee maltiness. Clean finish, nice.

Bottle@Midland Tasting Group. One of Blackhaddocks favourites, and one that didn’t disappoint. Dark mahogany beer with small head. Aroma is malty with a hint of caramel. Taste is malts, a hint of smoke, a touch of pepper and caramel. A little syrup on the palate with light carbonation. Very good.
