COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale
Imperial Cascadian is the NW style of this brew. This is a very well balanced, extremely hoppy black ale. It is very reminiscent of a winter ale. Armored fist is a collaboration beer brewed with the good ole boys from Three Floyd’s Brewing out of Chicago.

Draft at uber. Pours a murky dark brown with dark amber edges and a scant tan head. Big tangy grapefruit nose with burnt malt undertones. Creamy medium body with subdued carb. Dark caramel and tons of grapefruit on the mid palatw. Long ashy tangy finish. Nice mix of sweet, roasty, and bitter.

The first five words out of my mouth were "whoa." No surprise that three floyds had a hand in this. A massive pine tree of hops in this. I began associtaing boneyard as the three floyds of the PNW and this beer says it all

A deep dark brown IPA with a thin creamy lacing mocha head. In aroma, a beautiful floral hops, piney and resinous, with some nice herbal notes and coffee grinds. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with floral hops, sustained bitterness, alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at Belmont, Portland, Oct. 6 2012.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2013 Tap at Brouwer’s Cafe, Seattle - 08/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown/light black with a thin tan head. Nose is pine forward, hops, more pine, bitter tropical fruits, dusting of cocoa. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, light roast maltings, mango, pineapple, pine and hops. Fuller end of medium bodied with a fine carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Another great beer from Boneyard who have fast become one of my most regarded US brewers!

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe. Pours a very dark brown with an off white head. A little lacing. Aroma has fresh sweet fruit - mango from a black ipa? Also some roasted malt - could give this anywhere from a 6 to a 9. Taste ... well fresh fruit is king. Some maltiness underneath, I’ve never had a dark brew as fruity as this. Not too thick or strong. Finishes sweet and fruity. Certainly a different take on a black ipa. Is this a good saison?

Tap to goblet Aroma is caramel, piney, and flowery with a touch of coffee and spicyness. I'm surprised that there is absolutely no alcohol aroma. It's dark brown with a light tan head. It starts off with sweet maltiness and ends with a warm bitterness with a little bit of alcohol.

From notes. First reviewed 1/26/2011. Served on tap in a goblet at Three Floyds. This pours a maple brown, nearly mahogany, with an eggshell colored head that retains nicely. Strangely light appearance for a double CDA, though. Wet dog, gym socks, ad barnyard in the nose. Too strong and terrible. The first whiff made me tear up and want to cry. I almost cannot move past this point.** It is tough to ignore the smell, but I am doing the best I can. There is some sweet molasses up front. Sage, tons of cloves and all spice, lots of funk follow. The sweet and spicy flavors blend in with spicy and earthy hops. A little alcohol bite. Medium bodied, which was, again, light for what I was expecting. Candy sweet on the lips, and it leaves some hop resin. I could not finish this. The smell was just too overwhelming. **Note - the aroma was bad enough that I handed it to my friend, who agreed it was awful. Before even having a sip, I asked our server if something had gone wrong. He smelled it and told me that was how it was supposed to smell. So, I moved on.

Tasted on tap at the 12th Bistro Double IPA Festival on 2/11/2011. This Black IPA pours a medium brown color from the tap. Large sized beige/tan foamy head. The aroma is caramel, roasty , fruity and sweet. A medium bodied black IPA. The malts are caramel and sweet. Slighlty roasty. The hops are herbal and earthy, and a touch citrusy. Nice balance. A touch sweet but balanced toward the hop bitterness. Easy to drink and a good example fo the CDA/Black IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
