Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale
Imperial Cascadian is the NW style of this brew. This is a very well balanced, extremely hoppy black ale. It is very reminiscent of a winter ale. Armored fist is a collaboration beer brewed with the good ole boys from Three Floyd’s Brewing out of Chicago.

From growler filled at Boneyard. Wonderful taste, and I didn’t know about the 3 Floyds connection until I viewed this beer’s ratings. No wonder they have a couple of Dark Lord Day posters in the tasting room. A truly wonderful quaff from a great brewery!

Tap@Mikkeller & Friends, Copenhagen - fuzzy dark brown to black pour with good sized tan head. Prominent roasted malty and piney aroma and taste, some caramel, dark chocolate malts, lots of herbal hoppy notes, solid bitter piney finish. Great stuff.

On tap at Mikkeller and Friends. Near black with a lasting off-white head. Big aroma of licorice, orange, pepper and pine. Sweet dark malty flavour and fruity/herbal hops. Quickly gets a little cloying

Tap. Deep brown body with an average, lacing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, coffee notes, citrus and pine. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and bitter. A very nice Black IPA.

On tap at Lardo. Colour...dark garnet-brown with s thick off white head. Nose...hop resin and hop syrup with crushed hops. Palate...ultra bitter with a tamgy thing that provides some quick tempering to the hop shock. Musky, husky hops follow up as well as earthy-dusty notes. The finish is long and bitter with hints of sweetness.

Draught at Taphouse Grille, Seattle
Black color with creamy beige head. Elegant aroma, fresh, with a touch of roasted malt, coffee, carobs, jasmine. Good body strength, yet the mouthfeel is lean; the dark malt and chocolate flavor is nice, and it has a mild, pleasant degree of acidity, that blends well with the resiny hops.
Well constructed.

Poured from the tap at ABV in Hillsboro. Aroma is very sweet. First sip is like sweet and tart cherries. It tastes like it is barrel aged. The roasty malt is nice and helps even out the beer. Finishes crisp and bitter. Very different CDA.

With my eyes closed not sure i could tell this was a dark IPA--which to me, not a big CDA fan, is a good thing, Usually there’s a harshness as the dark malt qualities clash with the hops--very smooth here. A little lemon with a rich, woody flavor, light trace of coffee, alcohol rising. Dark brown but not black, off white head, My favorite dark IPA.
