Pours dark red/brown, fairly clear, decent tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, malts, and some legs. Coffee flavor is dominant, but not overly so, notes of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, with clean finish. Medium bodied, easy drinking, with no offensive aftertaste. Really a delicious session beer. Tasted @ 55F from the growler.

Dark and roasty on the nose. Light underlying sweetness, toast, chocolate, earth. Pours dark brown, more or less black with a tannish head. THe flavor is nice and roasty throughout, coffee undertones, soft sweetness, chocolate in the finish with a cleaner than average crispness to round it out. Well put together. Roasty, schwarz.

On tap at Boneyard. Dark brown with small white head. Decent roast and smoky malt, dark tones and flavors. Some coffee. Very smooth, a little watery. OK, but not great to me.

Brown-black, with a ring of browned head. Viscous watery quality. It fills the nostrils with a sweet brown malt, nutty, moderately grainy presence. The body is indeed a bit watery in mouthfeel, but the same qualities that displayed themselves in the aroma are again present. Sweet, nutty, brown maltiness and light grains. A sessionable, easy-drinking brew.

On tap at Monteaux’s - Dark beer with a white head. Roasty aroma, but a bit off. A bit disappointing, but then again, I guess I didn’t have a reason to expect anything in particular. I only had one.

On tap at Three Floyds. Pours dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, bit of smoke, and fair amount of coffee. Flavors of mostly coffee with some roasted malts and smoke mixed in. Decent beer. But did not really compare to some of the more stellar brews on tap 3F.

Tasted from a keg at the brewery. First thought - Schwarzbier, not for me? First taste? Excellent. Roasty, warm, yet light and pleasant in body. Haven’t drank enough S’biers to be an expert, but I suspect this would be a very, very good one.
